Re Glass air bridges - just like Adelaide, soon everywhere will have them.
Please NOT in Cairns - described today in Cairns Post as non-airconditioned concrete cattle races!!

Except they are air conditioned :)

It was very pleasant to walk into when stepping off the plane as opposed to the usual hot, stuffy, opaque air bridges.

The only problem with them is at least as of Sunday the QF staff cards do not work on the doors at the end (they're prox readers, not magnetic stripe) so they had to get airport staff to open them up :)

I rather like what cairns has now. Not sure about the complaint about no A/C. I never had air conditioning when living up there. The cairns post need to harden up.

But at least glass won't be concrete.

Oh was Groundfeeder referring to the glass airbridges? I got confused by the talk of concrete. Glass isn't anything like concrete.

However, i don't think the Adelaide ones are air-conditioned as they are rather cold in winter.

Was still like this last night. And took a while for someone to show up to open the doors aswell. Very nice building and the QP looks good. Not that impressed with the food on offer though...

I was at CBR on Wednesday - offload delays with most flights due to issues with the new airbridges - apparently had to revert to airstairs for part of the day.

New terminal, QP and J Lounges are great - although you would think that someone could put a bit of oil on the doors to the ladies & gents in the QP - make a god-awful screeching noise.

Food selection was a positive change from the standard fare a few weeks ago.

As an aside, the taxi/pickup area is an absolute mess (think Perth airport during the external renovations).

Does the floor still shake every time a baggage cart moves on the floor below?

Arrived this morning from SYD on QF787 - airport looks great, although a few teething problems - we had to wait 10-15 minutes for a gate as they were all full

Same experience on QF787 on Monday. The captain explained that they had to unload the bags of some no-show pax, hence delayed flight, hence we had to wait.

After 20 mins waiting, they opted for the stairs.

The J lounge is great. I quite like the lighting and the chairs.

Was there on Tuesday morning. Very impressed, with terminal and Lounge.

Job well done all round.

But the parking ..................struth.

Call me crazy, but I moved to the Qantas Club and prefer it here (although I did have breakfast before moving)

The Qantas Club has a great view of the runway, etc and is very open

The business lounge has a great view of the carpark elevators.

The main check in area is crazy - no clearly defined lines and the business/WP/SG line had about 50 people in it. Security gave me flashbacks to the USA vs the very quick processing in the old terminal - and it isn't the time of day - I am frequently on this same flight.

I was going to check my bag but decided not to bother and checked in for CBR-SYD-WLG in the lounge.

Hopefully the check in and security are just teething issues and not signs of things to come.

I was there yesterday and can't remember the old terminal. Looks pretty good, I am sure regular users will have better feedback in particular with the arrivals area, transport, and the lounges.

It still has that 'new' smell - airside it looks alright. Nice big glass windows, plenty of seating. The glass areobridges are a definente plus - love the face you can get a good photo opportunity of your aircraft. If only we could have them in Sydney.

The priority lanes will get rid of silver shortly as I recall

But the problem with cbr is the number of high value travelers. Look at J lounge capacity or CL capacity versus population 350k?? Highest in country I would estimate.

Have they done the Neil Perry thing in the J lounge yet?

Yes, they have the "island dining" like in SYD and now have hot breakfast options.

I stuck to a rather tasty bircher muesli (in a "glass" - as opposed to how it was served before) with toasted walnuts and some fresh fruit, but they also had a few hot breakfast items including scrambled eggs.

Note I have only flown out of there once since the terminal has opened as my travel is winding down for the year, so have only been there at breakfast time.

Having said all that, if I wasn't eating or drinking I would probably go into the Qantas Club instead of the Business lounge as I love watching the airport activity while waiting for my flight.

I had breakfast in the J Lounge last week. The hot brekkie with scrambled eggs etc reminded me of the Novotel fare.

What I want to know is when are we getting a J lounge in Perth. Canberra is on its second one and we are yet to see ours at all!

Was in the new CBR QP last night very nice, and huge, was packed to the rafters because of weather delays in CBR last night, seemed to be coping very well.

And at last some vego food, pumpkin pizza type thing.

Rest of the terminal looked like an empty warehouse....

This has been my experience of the new terminal. It's hard to imagine it ever being full.

It is ironic that the QP is sold as a way of getting away from the crowds, but in CBR (and MEL at times) it seems it's the way to join the crowds. Over on the Virgin 'old' pier it's as usual - very quiet Lounge and lots of people waiting in the main part of the terminal.

Of course it's going to remind you of Novotel fare, as the food service in these lounges is provided by Sofitel - which is part of the Accor chain that owns Novotel.

And the next person I see asking for a QF J Lounge in PER is going to find my foot wedged firmly up their backside. It's unlikely to happen anytime before the dom/int terminal consolidation given the amount of additional investment required to achieve it.

Does anyone know the timetable for the teardown of the old part of the terminal (QF end?) I assume that is going to be the new home of Virgin Blue and Tiger and isnt due for a couple of years?
