Some countries are very strict on duty free. I think you can bring 3 bottles into SIN but only 1 bottle into Thailand. And if you do get caught in Thailand, yes I know the customs officers just sit there most times, the fines can be very severe.

Just for info...

Singapore (a max of 3 bottles, as below)
- 1 litre spirits
- 1 litre wine
- 1 litre beer
NO tabacco allowance in any form except the single open packet of cigs you may have with you.

Also i noticed they are much stricter when you enter Singapore by boat, and is you have been to Bintan island in Indonesia etc you must have stayed 48hrs away. Actually i have never been inspected flying in.

Note that if arriving from Malaysia the limits are different also (or they were a few years back). At that time there was no alcohol allowance for arrivals into SIN from Malaysia. I was once inspected upon arrival from Malaysia. I was only in Singapore for the day, leaving that evening, and had purchased a bottle of scotch at KUL when departing. The inspector informed me of the Malaysia rule and when I showed him my ticket for departure that night and my intent to take the scotch with me for my return to Australia, he let me proceed as planned - just this once.

Sorry, thats what i meant by the 48hrs, it related to Malaysia & Indonesia close islands, you must be out of the country for a certian amount of time, i know 2 nights does it, before that if you have been to Malaysia or Indonesia you are not allowed duty free.

I had been out of Singapore for probably 9 months. I had been in Malaysia for way more than 48 hours (more like 2 weeks). But was still told I could not being alcohol into SIN from Malaysia.

As a non Malaysian and non Singaporian i was rather sure it was not an issue, i know if you are indeed Malaysian or Singaporian then the rules are a bit different. Anyway if i am wrong then i guess i better stop bringing back duty free when i arrive in Singapore from a weekend in Malaysia

I am most definitely neither Malaysian nor Singaporean. I am only going by what one official told me on one trip through about 4 years ago. He did ask where I had come from (answer KL) and asked to x-ray my bag (was carry-on only since suit case was checked from KUL to BNE. I was stopped as I was just about to exit the terminal for the taxi rank. This was well after immigration and baggage collection. I think it was just a random check.

Perhaps the rules are different for Singapore citizens or residents??? I really don't know.

I was allowed to keep the scotch, so was not an issue at the time. I certainly was not aware that I was not permitted to carry it through SIN. Obviously would not have been an issue if I had remained in transit. But would be an issue now with the liquids limitations.
