New e-reader wanted

My first sighting of a Kindle was on a QF flight from BNE to SIN in, I think, 2010, as the bloke next to me in J had one, and I though what a nice bit of machinery so I ordered one as soon as I got home. It arrived in September and was terrific for a while, and the browser was slightly useful, but difficult even then. My son has several Kindles and other readers, and has assumed ownership of this early - and real - Kindle.

I read a great deal, and have read at least as many books as others who have contributed, have four on the go at present, and have done for several decades, but I never took to Kindle or the like although I tried; to me a book is a book is a book. I don't mind taking half a dozen disposable books to the the UK or the US, as I'll give them away when I finish them and replace their weight with souvenirs and clothing.

I’ve just bought a couple of books because I know what you mean about being a book. But maybe in a more aware environment we need to reduce paper consumption? And they are very bulky.

I too love the feel of books and the act of flipping through pages. However, while travelling I find nothing beats my eReader. It's small enough to slip into my jacket pocket, meaning I can bring it out when delayed, spare moment, stuck in Y on a long haul flight etc

I'm a 3 book girl. One I'm reading, the next one, and the emergency in case the next one is a dud. On one trip home from the US I was toting a pack of books - (a series by a crime writer called Sue Grafton) home for a friend's cousin. Started reading A for Alibi and many hours later was still churning my way through the alphabet. I get really twitchy if I don't have a supply of books on hand so for me the Kindle has been a godsend

Interestingly in the US my hand luggage was searched after X ray. The culprit? A book! Guess most don’t take them anymore.
