New indicator on QF site when award booking is mixed-class

Re: Minor improvement to Qantas Award Booking engine.

Ah right - so really an issue for the big diversions (like my example above) than the little ones.

Re: Minor improvement to Qantas Award Booking engine.

Looking at some of interest to me (CNS-LHR) at the furtherest out dates currently available, it is now very easy to see that the majority of options are mixed class. And, an unscientific observation, it is more likely to be mixed class if QF is involved. eg CX via HKG or CX and BA via HKG will mostly give you the same class all the way. Most of the QF options via SYD or BNE will have a lower class and often on the long leg.

Re: Minor improvement to Qantas Award Booking engine.

I think JASA might be different but if not then you should be charged F points for the entire trip.

I have a JASA HKG-SYD-PER with the first leg in F.
Points cost was was 60K.

JASAs are not covered by the same rules and are a world apart when it comes to point costs, as pointed out elsewhere its not uncommon for them to be less than the equivalent classic award on some routes or classes.

Why not look at the sectors separately, mind you I prefer looking at in in sectors eg SYD/SIN then SYD/LHR rather than using the multi city tool as the info is much clearer & you're able to see the breakdown of base points plus cash component. Also if you want to mix classes you'll have to do separate bookings eg MEL/SIN in PE then another pnr SIN/LHR in J.

60K based points is definitely the J class level so save that one to favourites!

New indicator on QF site when award seat is a mixed-class fare

Looks like Qantas has taken on some feedback and has changed the award booking site. It now shows an indicator on the first page when part of a Business award seat will be in economy (I am assuming the same would apply for F, J and Y+ where the class required is not available on all sectors).

Was discussed before, but I can't find the thread.

Good to see QF take feedback onboard.

I must have missed it - couldn't have been around too long though as I was looking at seats only a few weeks ago and it wasn't there.

Yes, noticed this a few days ago but hadnt got around to posting here.

Good that QF have made it much clearer. Fair credit where due.

(How long did we whinge about this for ???.....;))

I think that the "indicator" has been there for a little while; maybe three or four months? I have certainly noticed it before and avoided those options, where it appeared!

There is another related issue that I have tripped over in the past day or so.

Checking for J Class Companion Fares, in particular, found that Business Saver fares were showing with the "indicator", as has been the case for some weeks now. But for numerous flights the so-called "Business" fare was for Premium Economy on one leg and Economy on the second. How could this be classed as Business of any sort?

This warning has appeared on quite a number of flights I've checked, not just on the Companion Fare flights.

Anyone else found this?

And Red Roo might care to respond?

Nice touch, perhaps it could read:

"Your flight from Timbuctoo to Sydney will be in Economy (and cost you the Business Class level of points), Qantas thanks you for so charitably donating to it's bottom line!"

It's somewhat of an improvement but still could be done better:

- you should be given the option to exclude mixed fares entirely from any search

- if you chose to exclude them then the monthly availability page should not show days as having J availability when its only mixed fares

It's a great improvement, don't forget they're still in the business of selling not giving! Xenophon, hasn't turned them into a charity just yet:!:

I still think there will be people who won't notice this. It's a similar scenario to people who book JQ flights on the QF website & despite there being the symbol with the orange star plus the flight saying JQ not QF they still don't notice then when they turn up to the airport & are told they're booked on a JQ flight they say "but I booked it on the Qantas website" or "but it's a Qantas itinerary".

I would guess that there are people who turn up at the airport expecting to be in J when they are actually booked in Y but not aware of this even though they have done the booking themselves.

Does this mean if you are ticketed on a JASA redemption with one of the sectors in a lower class, that if a "U" class seat becomes available you can have your ticket reissued? If that's the case it would be a good idea to seat a 'flight alert' on Expert Flyer so if that flight did become available in the class which you've paid for then you could change without penalty.

Trying to book PER-FLL Business early 2013. Via SYD and DFW.
There is heaps of availability but ALL have mixed Class. Majority have the indicator saying that 2 of the 3 legs are in Economy or Premium Economy. Cannot get Business the whole way. Why would anyone pay the full FF points for Business and be happy getting only a third of the journey ( or less) in Business.

They wouldn't but Qantas would be delighted to see you spend your points like that.
