New J class fares to NZ

Business "I" class fares
Some sort of linkage to N and L economy fares.
These are upgrades that earn at the business level.

A business ticket can be based on an I, D, J, C fare class (with qantas)

Hopefully this means Qantas will finally tell us the fare class during the booking process.

Sounds like they are testing out a version of the AA YUPP/KUPP type fares.. Probably earn the lower SC's but seat in J. Could work well.

Good pricing for J (assume that's what I'm looking at) :)

I had the sale fare SYD- AKL with son last month - about $300 return and as mother (i.e. me) was paying, I was happy enough. Both legs on A330. Only 20 SCs each way but at the price was ok.

This is QF now dabbling with dual inventory fares. Basically the I class fares are now tied to what Y inventory is available similar to AA and BA's UP fares.

That means if Y is quite full and only flexi is available, then these discount J fares will also not be available even if J is wide open, due to the requirement for a certain Y class to be available.

There's two fare levels loaded at the moment, one requires N class available (a Y sale bucket) and the other requires L class available (a Y saver bucket).

One of the key things that this method of doing fares stops is scenarios where J pricing is lower than Y pricing when the J cabin is empty/wide open yet Y is quite full.

This could make NZ flights more attractive for DSC Status Runs if these fares qualify for DSC. ~$1000 for 320SCs would be very nice.

So I did a dummy booking ....

Is it the bus sale fare here that’s the ‘new’ sales fare or ?

Consistently on this day the J sale fares are lower than flex Y

From the East Coast it's cheaper to go to New Zealand, than to many Australian destinations!

I am a bit confused. Are you suggesting a Y sale fare (20SC??) but in J through upgrade? or one of these "UP" fares discussed here so it only gave discount Y SC's but seating in J?

$300 r/t is a very good price obviusly to sit in J. Reminds me of the el-cheapo LA used to offer on the route
