Hi all :)

Newbie here but a frequent flyer who will be rejoining the skys again very soon.

I'm looking at refreshing my carry on luggage to a hard case. Currently looking at the Qantas branded hard cases but just wondering if anyone has any feedback / suggestions? Probably looking at around $120 mark (obviously in this field a $120 price tag is usually a RRP reduced from $250 haha)

Thanks!
Andy

Slightly OT but does anyone actually use the stuff they give you in hotels while you're staying there. I have to carry all my own toiletries because the ones in the hotels are too harsh and too strongly scented. I've got very dry sensitive skin and it is a pain having to carry toiletries
I use them, no issues for me even with fairly sensitive skin. Mrs FB prefers to take her own shampoo and conditioner, but it's come from a select few hotels..... so technically...... yes?

Never use the hotel toiletries except maybe liquid soap to wash hands and i did take the mini mouthwash from the Pottinger in Hong Kong.

Too often even if it is supposedly a lux brand they contain that horrible cheap irritant lavender, i have no desire to risk a reaction.

I use them if I need to and the rest I sweep up and hand over to others AFFers to donate to their charities ;) Also OT, I always travel with my own amenity kit that is just stuff I may need if not provided by hotels, get delayed etc. My kit is a collection of stuff that may have been needed but not available and it was a note to self, bring that in the future. My kit is limited to shaving cream, razor (a good one), deodorant, toothbrush and paste, floss, lip balm, eye drops, sanitiser, comb, shoe horn, nail clipper and a fold out mirror (compact) that I nicked from an EK female amenity kit. It is all contained in a pretty tough clear sided quart bag which has lasted years and it just lives in my carry on. When stuff runs out I just replace it with other free stuff.

Another who uses the hotel soap and shampoo. I wasn’t big on using conditioner when I was young but now seem to use it more even though I have less hair, although I don’t like using those 3 in one things, they can’t be good for you. 2 - 4 days trips will take my chances but longer I take soap and shampoo that I know that won’t cause any dryness.

There are one or two hotels that have decent shower gel.

I don’t take that with me and am usually ok to use what’s supplied.
Everything else I take my own supplies.

A tip that is probably known by many of the seasoned travelers in the group, conditioner is a great shaving cream alternative if you happen to run out, and readily available in the hotel swag.

I don't, I don't care about the brand. Any "no name" is good enough. Who knows what's inside the hotel toiletries.

Me too. I mean, all those 'branded', 'labelled' hotel toiletries - its just the same old stuff with the label, right? And shampoo - your hair is dead; what's one product going to do over another, except maybe leave a different smell?

Sadly from my point of view they’re not all the same. The scents and drying properties can be very different.

YMMV 😊

Most shampoo in hotels is basically detergent and the conditioner basically cheap moisturiser - it strips your hair of natural oils, causes frizz (vs right product where curls are smooth) , strips colour and makes long locks unmanageable. And yes smell is important, as hair retains it.

And lavender oil (a comon ingredient in free stuff) can cause contact dermatitis (and dandruff) not to mention the smell is over powering and rage inciting (not a relaxant at all).

there are many differences apart from scent.

I have not noticed any but I'm not necessary the best test subject...
(If label and shape of bottle is a difference, then I agree there is:))

The reason the scent is there IMO is that most people buy on the what the label says, the marketing and what it smells like.
Look at al the instagram promotions. Looks great, smells great = works great.....

It is the old chestnut - It smells nice which activates the cognitive dissonance centre of the brain which shuts off the objective centre of the brain.

No the base ingredients used for different brands can be completely different. The nicest smelling one is not necessarily the best performing and label/packaging design is the least important thing.

Claiming they are all the same is like saying all salad dressing or sauces are the same when they clearly are not - ingredients/formualtion matters.

Play shampoo roulette if you like, me I will buy and use what I know works best for my hair.

Has anyone had any Pierre Cardin luggage? I need a new suitcase (soft) and there are some in the QANTAS Marketplace that I've my eye on but can't find much by way of reviews.

(Trying to take advantage of the bonus offers this month in Marketplace esp as I'm PC+)

Edit: while I'm at it, anyone had any QANTAS Adelaide luggage and loved it?

It also comes in black.
This is what I ended up going for. It has the double pole handle, a harness for stairs and rough surfaces, 2 sturdy wheels and a tiny bit bigger than the one I was originally looking at. Bonus - it's Australian (Black Wolf) and half the price of the original. I'm very happy.

Can't see the 65l when I google. Can you give the model name please?

Looks like Cuba65 - Cuba 65
EDIT: Actually it is not. It is the Grand Tour 65 but not shown on Black Wolf site. SuePa must have bought the last one in 65L.They still have 85L.
Bags to go has it albeit no bargain pricing.

Prozac is correct, it is the Grand Tour 65. I bought it online from "Bags to Go" .
I think it is an old model, so supplies are dwindling - only 8 left at Bags to Go!
I ordered on Tuesday and picked up from the PO today. Pretty happy with that, considering I don't live in a major centre.
