Did anyone else get an email saying that a new Velocity membership card will soon be sent and will replace the current one with the new one having a reloadable Visa Prepaid travel card? I don't believe I asked for this but I am guessing they are moving toward the QFF card which comes with a similar option. Do they still look like the current card on one side?

Yeah I got the same email, unsolicited. Not really something I want to use, and imho looks less nice than the original card. My email had an image of the new card, the magnetic-stripe side looks fairly similar to the front of the original card (but with added magnetic stripe across the bottom).

Sounds like VA are trying to move everyone over to GW. Shame, as I was hoping to ask for an original non-GW card. Pure aesthetics – call me vain.

I've opted out of GW and haven't received an email about a new membership card being sent out.

I've got a non-GW card and the reason I've opted out of GW is purely for aesthetic reasons too. If only they were better designed like the QF one.

I just received my card for the coming year and it (thankfully) wasn't a Global Wallet card. Unless they've changed the design since last I saw one, the Global Wallet cards don't have the Virgin Australia logo anywhere - so it's a pain to try to convince lounge dragons (DL's lounge dragons in particular) that they should let you in.

Does the new Velocity card have the Virgin logo on it? This would help with partner airline identification when trying to enter the lounge. I now use my baggage tag.

I didn't realise that I had to opt out of it. I just noticed it now under my benefits.
The new card appears to clearly display the velocity logo and I did enquire and it is just the reverse side that has the GW function.

This is the picture from the email.

..noting the lack of VA logo - and it's a cough design to boot. :p

Hmmm maybe I will have to keep my old card for lounge access purposes while I trial this GW function and then opt-out once I become a WP next Feb.

I received the Global Wallet card a while back and just left it on my desk. Then I wondered if it was the actual card. In the end I loaded $100 onto it for the 30 pieces of silver on offer. I now have two cards in my wallet but I wasn't sure if the GW card could be used as a Velocity card. My membership anniversary came up yesterday and I requalified for SG so I will see what they send me.

It's always had the Velocity logo, it just doesn't have anything on it to indicate an association with Virgin australia.

I use one of my two luggage tags as ID to get into lounges when travelling overseas as it has the VA logo,on it with no issues.

also use the GW card as it's quite competitive to other similar travel cards and I earn points for usage

I also got the email. I'm status chasing from nothing and just hit silver but the card / tags are taking ages to come.

I just got this email so I wonder if this is the cause of the delay...

The card and tags do take a while to arrive but I am guessing if these cards are being sent to all velocity members who have not opted out then it could explain a longer than usual delay.

My review date isn't until 30 July 2015 so seems a bit strange to receive one all of a sudden.
