When will the new NSW Intercity fleet enter service? It’s been 5 years since the train was meant to enter service, wtf? Any updates on the first service on the new Mariyung trains?

Really shows the power of unions in Australia and their ability to halt progress in every positive thing for this country.

Also what about the XPT and Xplorer fleet replacements?

XPT introduced in 1982 and still running the same type of train.
Shinkansen introduced in 1964 and currently there have been 21 different versions. Plus the y have built a test train introduced in 2019 to travel at 400 Kph on existing track. On top of that planning to introduce a Maglev line with speeds of 500Kph+.

NIF now being tested. XPT replacements... Interior fitout hasn't been finalised, so don't hold your breath.

Not sure if they've even started the required amendments to the NIF trains per the agreement with the RTBU.

Basically need to remove camera systems to prevent the trains from being shifted to driver only operations in the future, and some door lock changes to allow the guards to operate.

Think the regional rail trains (inc XPT replacements) are delayed until 2026/ 27 after issues with CAF on internal fitout.

Those modifications reminds me of Ansett spending $ modifying their B767s because the union insisted on an engineer in the coughpit, only airline in the world to do so, receivers (mmm) later sold them for less as new owners priced in re-reconfiguring. (Not union bashing on the contrary, smart unions use technology introduction to negotiate upskill and up-pay their members, rtbu not included).
