NEW! Qantas Double Points Deal, 5/9/14 through 12/9/14 for travel to 28/2/15

Why for a Bronze member in the lowest flight category (0-750miles)
means they get their 400 points double to 800 points (which is what they would have earnt anyway thanks to the minimum guarantee.)

(Silver gets 1000, Gold 1100 and Platinum 1200 - so still some benefit for elites)

Good pickup - I wonder how many occasional/bronze FFers will book short domestic flights (e.g. MEL-SYD) using the double points promotion, thinking they're getting a good deal?

I think Red Roo needs to clarify this, is there NO benefit whatsoever for short haul domestic with this promo? It would be EXTREMELY misleading I think if there isn't. In my opinion if the Minimum Points Guarantee has kicked in the member should get double that, i.e. 1600 points.

How many bonus points would I get for the following itinerary as a WP, considering base points are not visible in the new calculator and it is a points guarantee booking?

MEL-SYD Discount Economy - 800pts
SYD-MEL Flex Economy - 1200pts

You need to look at the table.
Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas & Partner Airlines - Flying with Qantas & Jetstar - Earning Qantas Points

So I would say

DiscY MEL-SYD = Base (400) + Double (400) + Plat 100% (400) = 1200
FlexY MEL-SYD = Base (600) + Double (600) + Plat 100% (600) = 1800

Normally the Plat 100% doesn't matter as it only takes the flights up to the minimum guarantee of 800/1200 respectively.

Note in looking at the T&Cs, there is no mention of the Minimum Points Guarantee, but it is clear it is only on Base Points.

Bonus Qantas Points are based on the Base Rate which applies and for the purposes of this promotion does not include any Status Bonus that may apply for tier members.
'

But it also suggests that the points may not be credited at the same time.

Bonus Qantas Points may take up to 6 weeks after completion of your travel to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.

Thus for a Bronze member flying SYD-MEL Disc Y.
They might get
800 points on the date of flight (400 base plus 400 to Minimum Points guarantee), and then
400 points six weeks later (the double)

Note my calculation for cmon0005 doesn't change

So I would say

DiscY MEL-SYD = Base (400) + Double (400) + Plat 100% (400) = 1200
FlexY MEL-SYD = Base (600) + Double (600) + Plat 100% (600) = 1800

Normally the Plat 100% doesn't matter as it only takes the flights up to the minimum guarantee of 800/1200 respectively.

Thanks moa999, I am flying in the next couple of days so will report back.

This makes a lot of sense! I guess we'll have to wait for points to credit or for Red Roo to explain.

Better something then nothing...
Anyway need to fly QF Dom, at least until another serious airline will join the game.
LOL. If I had said that medhead would have jumped down my throat.

We'll have to wait and see. The base for CNS POM is only 300. So perhaps 300 + 225 for SG bonus + 300 double = 825 might be only 25 points more than the 800 points min. At most it will only be 300 points more. Like, wow

Earning decent points via discount Y is effectively over - better stick to the credit card offers now.

So if you are a frequent flyer that has to fly a lot down the back of the bus they halve the amount of points one can earn and then go and throw a promo like this to all and sundry. Good to see QF looking after its loyal frequent flyers over and above the occasional flyer.
Just out of interest is that any different to the double SC promotions?

Take a leaf out of IHG Win Big promotion or whatever name is used now.

Promotion period is 4 months and all bookings count regardless of when they were booked.

Flights booked and flown last week, no double points yet, normal points have posted though.

Yes I know that, that is almost in every QF T+C's, but in reality and from past experience they normally post within a few days (bonus points, bonus status credits.etc) barring a few exceptions.

Will post back when they come through.

I've flown on both the 18/9 and 20/9 and have also not received the bonus points. Will wait the 6 weeks and see if they show.

I did register and the bookings were made during the fairly tight booking window. The only possible drama I may have is that the booking were made by a client and I entered my FFer number later (can't remember if that occurred within the booking window though).

I flew 11/9 and no points, called qff they said will take up to 6-8 weeks

^BUMP

Just checking if anyone of you here have got their bonus points yet?

flew 8 and 19 Sept and they showed up in the activity statement something like 3-5 days after the flight

Finally got the double points today almost 4 weeks later, and yes for domestic flights I got the full points, eg. 800 for Discount Y, and 1200 for my Flex fare.
:)
