New Qantas First class

IMO, Qantas could commence upgrading its 744s as soon as it likes. But the new products have not yet been given the tick of approval, so cannot see it happening for some time.

Maninblack, I wouldn't rule out the likes of -OJA et al being converted into freighters. Such an idea has been mooted.

Kiwi Flyer, I heard one of the reasons the 3rd daily (on select days) SQ BNE-SIN flights was cut was due to lack of available capacity - so you would be correct in saying they are short of aircraft.

New SYD F lounge looks wonderful... now here's hoping QF's next big lounge project is at Brisbane - near the A380 gates currently u/c.

Don't hold your breath for that one. I can't see QF having A380 services to/from BNE for a long time. And they won't do anything with the FLounge in BNE while they don't have any F flights.

No.. I was meaning a new QF Lounge (replace the current one) should be built in the area where the new A380 gates will be. That's what I was referring to with "lounge project".

IMO, I can see Qantas offering F from BNE in the near future - not just in the form of 3-class 744s, I mean actually selling F class fares.

The design in the new Syd F lounge is almost 'retro-futuristic'!

Carpets that would not have looked out of place on the floor of the transporter room of the USS Enterprise! ("Beam me up Scotty").

Curved architecture right out of George and Jane Jetson's living room!

Sadly not :( This trip is paid F - the next trip I will still be AA Plat until midway through my trip - will hit EXP on flight DXB-LHR -
The long term reward has to be worth a lot more than the short term sacrifice.

I would tend to agree. J Class seating tends to be fairly limited on the BNE-LAX flights and don't even get me started on the A330 to SIN. Then again, people like me will always travel via Sydney (or some other indirect routing) to maximise points. ;)

Brisbane is maturing and once Qantas has the A380, surely there would be room for First with a 744.

So when is an AFF "do" planned for one of the new F lounges?

I could see myself flying down to a "secret location", then flying on a "secret" domestic flight (on an international plane) to meet with "secret" members of the AFF board in one of the new lounges. I'd even arrange for an overnighter in a "secret" town just to ensure that I could do the flight on the right day.

(All "secrets" are listed to ensure that Qantas doesn't get wind of any "secret" plans and block F lounge entry!)

Watch out! Alice is peering through the looking glass again....Can she see Qantas announcing enhancements to the F Lounge experience? What's that - no WP / Emerald access, like the Concorde Lounge. They wouldn't, would they?

Last I read was they had compatability issues with fitting the same F suite earmarked for the A380 on the 744, as space is at more of a premium on the 744. I wonder if this has been resolved? Guess we will have to wait until QF want us to know......

Indeed OJA et al may well go to freight, but they will be retired as QF passenger jets not too long after the A380 and 787 come on line in decent numbers.

As to QF running A380 services out of BNE, who knows, It will come down to economics. One could certainly foresee a demand for F services to SIN, HKG and LAX but my guess would be that QF would initially use 744's out of BNE and A380 from SYD and MEL. Airlines like Thai, SQ and CX run far more seats out of MEL to their hubs than QF who just don't have the aircraft (no MEL-BKK at all). A380 will help that situation.

Well getting back on topic - the new F lounges look amazing! I must fly F (or get into the lounge) one day!!

Love the idea of the Sony Centre too, and the better half would kill for the day spa...

Can't wait to see the A830 design by Marc Newson now as well.

From: About Qantas - Newsroom
"At the same time we are launching a new premium check-in service at Sydney and Melbourne international terminals, with First customers checked in prior to arriving at the airport and greeted at the kerb by a Qantas First Host and porter,"
Can QF WPs use the premium check-in service as well, if not travelling in F?

I'm thinking about switching most of my travel to QF:eek: from SQ due to my significant annoyance at SQ's "PPS enhancements".....then I should make QF Platinum easily as opposed to achieving both QF Gold and SQ PPS; Regular access to the QF F lounge is a nice carrot:mrgreen::lol:

I sure hope you are right.

Now, where is the A380 capable gate at BNE?

I hope the 747-300's go first  .

The lack of F from BNE is a real disappointment. But I can't see QF adding F to the BNE-SIN/HKG for a while yet. They only operate 767 to HKG and A330 to SIN on once-daily schedule. So until they can claw back some demand from the likes of SQ et al, they are not going to add 744 size capacity in order to get F. So unless they fit out the 787 with an F cabin, I can't see it happening (unfortunately).

And I personally doubt they will have a true F in the 787. I expect that if we see them as 3-class, they will be J (next generation Skybed), Y+ (perhaps Millennium type seats) and Y. But I sure hope I am wrong :p .

That's where it is going...

I can see 744s on BNE-SIN from late next year... whether they will be 2 or 3-class 744s, well that's another matter.

Yes, the fact that QF doesn't sell F out of BNE is disappointing. While it's great that they fly 3-class 744s on BNE-LAX-BNE regularly, it's a shame it's sold as J.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Qantas sell no F seats out of Perth at all, very east coast centric. Which makes a AONE harder to justify.
