Qantas revealed its new logo and aircraft livery (featuring a kangaroo with no arms) in October last year. Since then, I don't think any aircraft have actually been re-painted apart from the original 1 or 2 A330s. Does anyone know when/if Qantas plans to re-paint the rest of its fleet?

Thanks for the info.

It seems a bit strange to me to announce a new livery, then to have only 3 planes flying in the new colours almost 8 months later.

Was sitting at a window at Melbourne during the week, not one in the line had the new design. Was thinking much the same as you Mattg

How is this different to anything Qantas do? Announce something new that doesn't come into play until far into the future? Eg, wifi, new business suites, 787 joining the fleet, direct flight to London etc etc.

Who says that QF aren't consistent?

I presume they generally do the repaint when the aircraft are in the shop for extended periods for either C or D checks.

Yep - business as usual.

VH-QPJ (IIRC) was unveiled the day the new livery was announced but you can't just repaint a working fleet overnight even if the changes aren't that major on the surface (mostly the font of the QANTAS name on the main fuselage and the tail need changing, but it's still a bit of work.

Would you rather services be cancelled because an a/c is in the paint shop to get a (not very different) livery change?

all airlines repaint fleets like this. At one time Delta had I think 4 or 5 liveries flying around. AA I think still has a few old tAAils and it took UA forever to rebrand. Plenty of CX A/c in their now old livery too though their new one has been around for around a year or more.

I know which I'd rather. ;)

Also, as someone who personally prefers the old livery to the new one I'm happy the former is still going to be around for some time. :p

Did they even finish repainting the fleet from the last change (when the A380s arrived)?

UA had 6 versions of the "tulip" flying around, though they changed the entire fleet quite quickly with the CO takeover.

Nope, quite a number of 737s and Dash8s still in the 1984-2007 livery

The 1984 livery came with the 747-300s, the 2007 livery with the 380s, and this latest rendition for the 787s

I wonder how would the new livery look on the 737s and Dash8s. I reckon it'd be little weird to my likings.

Of course not. I realise that these things take time, but I just think it's bizarre that in 8 months they haven't managed to paint a single 737, A380, 747, 717 or Dash 8.

With the spare shells freed up next March from the QF9 change it would not surprise me to see 380's get a new job from then (eg: could do a sector to SIN, go to the paint shop there, come out, fly back to SYD, etc...). The 380 fleet at least is pretty stretched as it is (just look what happens when one has any kind of serious delay....)

just a thought on that

Agreed, although suspect they will be getting more than just a new paint job

Why spend any additional capital if it is not going to make you any additional revenue. Only the Qsheep are going to notice/care anyway....
