New Qantas Toolbar - Earn Bonus Points just for searching

Qantas already has all my personal information - name, DOB, address, phone number, seating preferences, job title, employer's name, etc etc etc.

what they're getting from my use of the toolbar is not personal. Mostly so far I've searched for information on the Virgin FF benefits I wish Qantas would also offer, like hotel status, free confirmed upgrades, family pooling. It might not be many points a month, but it's about the same as doing a big shop at woollies - and they're getting much more personal information from that!

Actually search history is just as valuable to a company as the traditional personal information. Why do you think Google is so keen to get people to sign in for searches and maintain records across 50 of their services.

I dont think a single search I made in the qantas toolbar was a legitimate search though... You will never find what you want on yahoo or bing or wherever it sends you.

Yes, I've had to train it by constantly search for myself to show my link first :p to my website that is ;)

firefox is my 'naughty' browser. Hopefully they can start hiring stewards to my taste.

Personally I think this is a very narrow view of "personal" information.

Don't know what they'll do with the things I search for, especially when i misspell it "pron"...

It's not only what you search for ...

Such systems can interrogate your entire browsing history.

What's in YOUR browser's cache?

Friend tried using it towards the end of October and other than the first few searches has had errors (invalid search) since. Not sure why.

Using it on a mac through FireFox. I'm also using it on a similar setup and have no issues.

I know it's only 1800 points a year, but still...

Yes, if it's a genuine search history. I can assure you I'm not using my Qantas toolbar the way I use Google - I'm using it to let Qantas know what I want them to know.

I still use this.
On and off anyway. My main browser is Chrome (on mac) so it's on firefox for me.
