New Qantas TV commercial

I think you have been too harsh on Neil, TH.

The menus he has driven have always given me plenty of satisfaction, mind you that was F and J.

To be fair you are probably right. I guess my point is that Qantas seem to place a lot of emphasis on Neil Perry, Mark Newson, and that Morrissey bloke....as a smokescreen whilst "enhancing" the product offering.

So being a one dimensional shallow individual, Pavlov's dog theory kicks in. Neil Perry = Dilution of Offerings in my mind.

I just need some retraining! :) Perhaps a new commercial!!

Marc Newsons stuff for Qantas has been fantastic, I love his style in everything he does (though if you like more traditional objects and expression I'd suggest you'd never be a fan of his!)

Plastic amenity boxes in J is all I have to say!!

Don't forget the ever present wheel of cheese! Very much a Crackerjack moment every time!

Gold, and I love the wheel of cheese. Just never any thick slices of bread around when I go to attack it. ;)

Sparkling wine in Y will keep the punters very happy.... Interested to know what drop it will be??
Please, the Y crowd (usually my people) have access to more than enough booze as it is without a sparkling wine on the menu kthx. Still haven't forgotten that guy who drunk 5x of the Jacobs Creek red on my last SYD-PER.

....yes but the knifes will be designed by Marc Newson, so they won't actually be functional!
Are you suggesting that you won't be able to cut through a NPPP with MNDC? (MNDC = Marc Newson Designed cough, or crockery/cutlery depending on the context).

Yes - I'm coining a new acronym in honour of Mark Newson, considering Neil Perry already has one.

That wouldnt be that hard to do surely? I could easily take out three MEL-SYD...

Good Point Pauly. Finally someone else on AFF who has seen the light!

+ 2 - I hope they introduce healthier options into the J lounge as well. I've had enough of pies, quiches, pizza's at the lounge - it reminds of my local RSL.

I hopw they get rid of the vegetarian pasta (drenched in oil), spag bol (again swimming in oil) from domestic flights.

Agree, breakfast in the J lounge has some good healthy options but other occasions are pretty carb heavy....

I have only seen bread, hot cakes and danishes in the J lounge in SYD...

I am generally there between 6Am and 7AM.

Finally saw the ad last night, on a recoded show from Sunday night. I like what they’re saying and showing, now actually doing that will be the tricky thing :p

Is the ad available online anywhere? Can't seem to find it on Youtube, and I don't really watch FTA so I'm very curious... :)

Every time I check the timetable I am reminded no 'F' class out of Perth, and I thought J food was improving, but it was a passing apparition. I do have a Neil Perry branded bbq that works quite well, but I do the cooking. Perry is just a flashy ponce, sorry Fred.

I'm still looking for the J lounge in Perth, never mind the offerings!

Only the top 2% of QFF WP know where the J lounge is in Perth...

There is actually a secret door that looks like a wall behind the QF Club entrance desk.

To access you must know the password for the lovely QF club attendants which is 'I have a bomb in my luggage so let me in'.

Let me know how you go!! ;)

Everyone around the world does it. They all have signature chefs or what not. In some cases, more than one; e.g. BA I think have about 5, whilst the SQ culinary advisory panel consists of 10.

VA's signature/star chef is Luke Mangan, head chef of the restaurant glass in Sydney (amongst other restaurants).

Then of course you push all the brands of the design of the kits, the seats, etc....

In short, everyone does it. You learn to get over it quickly.

Economy
Mixed choice of fruit as opposed to the current offering of a single fruit
Increase in the freshness of food

So I guess you can get more on board than just an apple? What will it be - bananas, pears, green apples (rather than red apples), oranges...? Help me out here.

Higher food freshness? What's that's supposed to mean about all the food we've had to date? (I mean, I haven't got a stomach lined with cement here, you know...)

But all of those chefs are actually pretty good :p

Sam,

I have eaten at various NP establishments and on the whole they are very good. I think we should remember that creating airline food for the masses is not easy and I am sure QF restrict heavily what he does for them.

I would say NP is equal to or better than Luke Mangan.

The restrictions on what can be done with airline catering were made very clear by NP during the masterchef episode earlier in the year when they were given the task to prepare food for reheating in the A380, as with most things, I find you appreciate things more when you have a better understanding of their background!

I wont put penne pasta in that category though as far as QF offerings go, its impossible to appreciate unless you have not eaten for a month.

Neil Perry: Good plane eating
