New QF A380 reconfiguration!!!

I had 35F on QF1 from SYD-LHR a week or so ago which was my first time on the new config. I had to ring up to get the seat allocated free of charge (WP1 benefit) as the system tries to charge $180 for the exit row. I wish QF would fix this so that WP1s can select exit rows on-line at no charge.

35F was a good seat, and a nice mini cabin, but the space in front of this seat gets used as a passage to the toilet so I was frequently pulling my legs in to save people climbing over them. That was a little annoying so I really wanted to try row 48 if I got the chance on the return leg, which was showing as the old config.

The return leg is QF10 LHR-MEL next week. I've been checking my booking every day to see if it changes to the new config. I had pre-selected 50C on the old config and was worried that if QF changed the plane I could end up in a standard seat 3 rows back from the front of the Y cabin. Last night it changed to the new config and I was still in 50C.

A number of posts on this thread state that row 48 is not designated as an exit row and therefore does not attract the $180 fee. I changed to 48C and up pops the page asking for my credit card details  so I rang QF, from London, to ask them to assign the seat to me at no charge. I was given the seat but told that row 48 is not designated as an exit row and their is no charge to anyone for these seats. It would be nice if the QF website knew this!

So anyway, I'm now looking forward to trying out row 48 and comparing it to row 35 on the upper deck.

Does anyone know if there is AC power in the upstairs Y cabin on the new config? Seat Guru says there isn't which I find is strange - can someone confirm?

I'm sure there would be in power for these seats - at a ratio of at least 4 for every seven seats.

When I sat in 32A, I found the window-side locker was significantly larger than those on the 747 upper deck and was large enough for my carry-on backpack that contains laptop, iPad, chargers, 1 change of clothes etc. So when seated in a window seat I found no need to use the overhead bins, leaving them available for the aisle passenger.

If they have kept the same size window lockers/storage when they re-assigned this area of the plane from Y+ to Y in the new config - then yes, the side bins are huge.

I too also have shoved my entire laptop bag (with lappy and iPad and bulk etc) into the side store, along with normally my shoes (go in first) and when I need to remove pullover / jumper - these also just about squish in (although don't tell the wife how badly I squish my clothes in - she'd have a fit).

I have a Y+ from LHR to SYD coming up early next month - current seating has the existing seat config... so will be interested to see if that changes before the flight at all.

The side bins are the same as they were before the change.

There was no in-seat power at 32 AB and I fairly certain the FA confirmed there was no in-seat power in the upper deck Y section. Not sure if anyone else has managed to find any??

I flew row 32 JK on 1 and 14 Oct from Sin to LHR and vice versa. Was definitely able to charge my IPhone and IPad as there was a USB outlet. There also seemed to be an outlet for a network cord (?) for charging (?). Was no 240 vault outlet though.

AFAIK, the 388 bulkhead row outlets are only accessible when the IFE monitor is extended - they this should be the same for row 32.

Did someone post a photograph of that on AFF?
Not that I know of - there a tiny bit more here:
All current Qantas aircraft that have audio sockets use the 2 pronged type.

...

You will find the socket in your row 79 exit seat under the arm rest. Is accessed in the storage slot for your monitor. It is not accessible when the monitor is stowed. It's hard to see TBH.

Be aware that the access to the socket is quite narrow and any plugs² wider than a standard plug probably won't reach.

...² Including, especially, "power packs" - those with inbuilt transformers.

I'm not sure that plugging anything into a 400hz socket is a good idea.

DO NOT...I REPEAT DO NOT USE THE VACUUM CLEANER OUTLETS FOR ANY OTHER REASON THAN FOR THE CLEANERS VACUUMS OR APPROVED MEDICAL EQUIPMENT WITH ADAPTER...SERIOUS FIRE RISK...a warning from the company when i was a flight attendant

400 Hz is standard for most aircraft systems, and allows things like motors to be built significantly lighter than 50-60Hz systems. But most importantly 400 Hz generators can also be very light.

Upper Deck Y New A380 Config (Seat 32D in particular)- Yes or No?

Hi Folks

I'm on QF9 tomorrow (in Y) and have Seat 32D available for selection on the upper deck. Does anyone know what the legroom situation is like given this is a bulkhead row? Is it a handy extra bit of room or a wall in your face?

Also, what is upper deck Y like in comparison to lower deck? Should I aim to sit up here or with the masses down below?

Thanks in advance

Mrs GPH is in LHR as we speak. She has tried or an upgrade but it's not looking good.
Apparently the biz class toilet was not much fun either and long queues ( this was on he flight on the way over).
So maybe F is the only way to go ?

It is I, Leclerc !

I can see lots of PAX , or at least FF's, trying to use code share flights with EK rather than QF if this configuration isn't sorted before the new tie up next year

Interestingly Mrs GPH tried at the gate ( for an upgrade) in SIN. Jackpot a nice spot in row 20. J.
All is now right with the world.
