Hi All,

I joined because there was a lot of useful information on this site about qff status and rtw/atw deals (ie ex anywhere but oz).
I have been a qff since 2004 and only ever been on Bronze :-( I want to get to platinum in my next year (have 90 now no way I have time to get to anything more before 31 oct) but rather quickly. I have a trip with my parents and partner already booked in for May, and some jetstar and qantas flights and holidays booked and paid for (jq with qff status and points).
I will be planning for a rtw departure within the next 12 months also on a 2-3 month trip. Had been looking at lx/lh j class with a few economy sectors added but from the information on this site might be worth looking at the done* fares for more included sectors and better flexibility (although routing may be a cough) for slightly more $ but then all the flights could potentially be on the one ticket which I feel is a much safer option.

Look forward to meeting you all.

Shell

Welcome! You will find us a friendly and humorous bunch :)

You'll also learn ALOT! :)

its been less then 24 hours and I think my ears are bleeding from my hurty head :S... I read somewhere on here you can pay someone to research for you?? I think I'd prefer an Uber knowledgable member here than a Travel Agent looking into some of these things!!

I would just really like to thank everyone who has helped me out... I love travel, I don't earn a lot of money... but as I earn more I like to indulge more. I spend a lot each year on travelling - even just to visit family (don't really call that leisure travel) - and I have now thanks to you all, learnt some ways to probably spend less, go more places and do it in style. I am sure I will have a lot more questions in the future. But thank you!

JohnK you would slap me given the chance - but myself (well still waiting for 20 SC to post and needing only 15SC) and my partner are now Platinum...
I am sure we will see you at an event soon if not one of the lounges.

I just wanted to thank everyone again for their help... Bronze - Platinum in about 6 months of AFF membership - not bad guys not bad at all...

And as a FYI it only cost $1500 more per person than our usual travel to go from bronze to platinum (we would have hit silver after May left to our own devices), so it really is about what I learnt here and making slightly different choices on bookings (domestic JASA's rather than Y classic awards - USA SC run, we didn't do YUPP fares we paid the $100 extra per person for the return to confirm F and J rather than risk being put back into Y on a very tight schedule, and I am glad we did as every J cabin was full and no doubt some Yuppers were disappointed) which has actually also meant less money spent and more comfort flying!

Thanks all :)

Great news.

Now you will find spending more time planning how to stay Platinum and adding a few extra legs at the beginning and end of trip. I think that is half the fun with planning holidays....

Congratulations to the both of you for hitting Platinum Shelltom in 6 months that is an achievement.
If you don't mind me asking how many points did you spend?

I'm only a bronze and was planning to go for gold when my SC reset st the end of July but maybe I should try for platinum? Did you get to use DSC?

Hi Inver,

My biggest mistake was booking Jasa's for us both right before the end of my membership year - so I have 80SC less than my partner. Having him hit platinum before me has been no end of taunting (and he doesn't even understand it he just knows I want it!). Although value wise, it was almost the same points as classic and I did reduce it down to the minimum and it was our first business class trips together.

Nov 1 (start of my year) I had 5k points in my account.
I now have 31k
My partner had 3k Nov 1
Now he only has 136

My credit card credits automatically to qantas (direct earn?) and everything is spent on it. My partner has a business Amex but he doesn't need to spend much on it but he did transfer all his points (4k) so it did help.

I used 98k in my own account and 86k in my partners account.

We didn't have a DSC, we have one now but we already qualified.

We DID however book to hawaii on Jetstar and I seized that opportunity to commandeer the holiday and we did the YUPP to SJU from HNL and back to LIH which got us the bulk of the SC and we did a YASA/JASA trip to BME via PER which is 50k each for the points as there was only Y available outbound and we did a few last minute so not the best point price JASA's to Melbourne/Brisbane (although brisbane was for a funeral). Having said that we still have a trip to adelaide and USA with a number of flights across america on AA in that trip so we would have made it regardless - we just put an extra trip or two in to make sure we got it before USA to make the most of the First Class Lounge.

If you have DSC it would be easier, BME was a good run I thought because we liked BME a lot and we like perth as well, we only got to anything because of the YUPP though. I did also book the LAN Syd-Akl J trip ...

I've been a QFF member since 04 and never been anything except bronze. I think once I was about 50SC off silver but I couldn't go on another trip.
We are travelling a lot at the moment so its worth paying that little bit extra on the fare to get that whole lot more.

Not to mention the earn rate at the higher tiers helping recoup your points to use them all again - it is nice!... as my partner says - the rich get richer
