New rebooking policy - 5,000 mile flight radius

I almost booked a flight from CGK to LHR in Dec 2020, but I couldnt help thinking what if Australia still bans overseas travel by then? Or if we are not allowed to enter CGK? I won’t be able to get to CGK in the first place.

From all the options provided by QR, i’d like to know what will be other people’s choice in such situation?

So what would you like to be your final destination? Are you originating from CGK or LHR? This is a decent deal and definitely plenty of value out there to still utilise the deal.

sorry I haven’t been too clear on my previous post. I live in WA and want to fly to LHR in Dec 2020. It costs much less to fly CGK-DOH-LHR return than PER-DOH-LHR (in J). Even if it means I have to make my own way from PER-CGK.
My concern is that Australia still has the international travel bans by then and I can’t make it to CGK in the first place. So I want to know which option most people will choose in this situation? Note that as far as QR is concerned, my country of departure is Indonesia not Australia, so they might not offer me a full refund?

Booked a saver fare CDG-HKG and switched it to fly to SYD with no changes in price - fairly easy process.

When I was saying that you missed the boat what I meant was that all the business class flights that went for cheap got snapped up real fast.

I’m currently based in Doha and on Monday was able to change my business class flights at Christmas from Doha-Kathmandu to Doha-Zurich no problems. I think the cheapest business class flights at the moment are Sydney-Rome early December and then you can change your dates, your departure to another Australian City and your destination to within 5000 miles. Just check the Qatar website when booking to see that the same fare is available. If you do have to cancel the flight you can exchange it for a travel voucher and get an extra 10% value. No cancelation fees that way

The real question you need to ask yourself is this - assuming we are over this pandemic, and you are able, will you definitely travel with QR over the next two years? If so, and your plans are cancelled in December, you don't lose your money - you get the voucher to use when you can travel.

If it were me, I would book the tickets and if I can't travel in December, I will just take the voucher and use it sometime in the next two years. I've booked flights knowing full well that I may not be allowed to enter Australia in December, which means I will just get a voucher and use it some other time.

i will defo travel overseas again and with QR ,now that they’ve matched my VA status. Its just the matter of whether it’s worth it to navigate the whole “flight change/voucher request/etc” situation as i saw mixed opinions from people who had been dealing with them. I still am waiting for my cash refund from SQ, for flights that were canceled back in April. So, maybe it isnt wise for me to try my luck with QR at this point in time... but damn, the offer is so good!

And yes, unfortunately there is a large gap between good agents and agents who may not be that experienced in terms of assisting customers, and a lot of people know that sometimes you need to call 2 or 3 times before you get an agent who will help you in an effective and efficient way (no one wants to stay on the phone for too long).

If you want to take advantage of a special deal, with ANY airline, make sure you read the offer once or twice, including the fine print. Then, when you are speaking to an agent, have these in front of you so you can point it out and tell the agent where you see the rules. I often find this is the best way.

good point Do you know if the travel credit they offer can be used to book any class fare and any destinations in the future?? If yes ,then its not a bad deal at all.
SQ’s policy on this was so weird (as told by Expedia agent to me); the travel credit can only be used to book the same class ticket or above, in the future. Meaning if my previous booking was in PE, i couldnt use the credit to book Economy in the future! Hence i asked for cash refund instead.
