Interested to hear your suggestions as to what you would like to see on Qantas Mainline svc's that Virginblue currently/will offer (being realistic & without stating the obvious introduction of IFE on every seat) of course?

Is it Youthful cabincrew?
Is it bigger meal trays in Y?
The reintroduction of tray services on Galaxy runs?

In seat IFE IMHO is the biggest thing which DJ have and QF don't on dom routes (some A330 flights excluded)

Things like youthful cabin crew don't really worry me. I don't care the age of the person who is serving me dinner. Provided that they know how to do that with a smile (and how to get pax out of a plane during an emergency) age plays no part.

More generous meal time considerations on domestic flights. I often take a 5:30PM flight that means I get home at around 8PM (factoring travel time etc.). So I then havent eaten anything (as food in the lounge doesnt really appear until after 5PM and by then I have been summoned to board) since lunch.

I couldn't give a damn about in seat IFE. What really narks me is having to shut down all devices 30 mins out from SYD on a 60 min flight...

Well if we are going to talk about meal times full stop, then yes, any flight which goes over a meal time in either the origin time zone or the destination time zone should be given a meal (I remember getting the full dinner treatment on a QF flight from ADL-MEL and again on MEL-CBR back in '95, both flights where the same flight number)

I'd also like to see some decent meal options in the QP... I'm getting a little sick of bringing Hungry Jacks into the QP's as I know there won't be any decent options, and no dinner on the plane. (eg a MEL - CBR run)

Is that referring to the descent PA made to switch off PED's?

Understandable, though I have questioned this a few times and explanation given was it was a CASA regulation that the airline complies with regardless of potential interference or not....

IMHO there are very few who would not understand. Where people get upset is how early they seem to want the EDs turned off.

Very much so. Though why they can do gate to gate IFE on the A380 and on JL but I can't have an iPad on... that is something I actually do not understand.

The IFE is shielded so its radiation or EMF is contained, your PED is not, and there is a very remote chance it may influence the aircraft systems, so rather than take the risk the airline insists these be turned off.

There are no requirements in the Australian CARs limiting the use of personal electronic devices. There is in America, however here it is all airline policy.

Um you eat Hungry Jacks... And you can't find anything more decent in the QF pub?! Choke.... You could stuff your face at the new candy bars and still be ahead cholesterol wise...

There are CASRs (which is where you would expect a safety issue to surface) which do cover this:

CASR 91.055 requires the operator and the pilot in command to prohibit or limit the operation of a PED on board an aircraft if there is reason to believe the PED may adversely affect the safety of the aircraft. CASR’s 91.050, 91.055 and 91.1010 provides the pilot in command with the necessary authority to control the use of potentially hazardous PEDs on board his/her aircraft, and obliges persons on board to comply with legitimate safety instructions.

Cliff notes:

Airline policy in Australia is to educate their pilots to believe the PED may have an adverse effect on aircraft safety. It is not compulsory for pilots/airlines to believe this.

Regulation is such in the USA that the airlines/pilots must prohibit or limit the operation of a PED on board an aircraft to specific circumstances. It is compulsory.

Ok, I'm going to out myself here. I activate flight mode on my phone and never turn it off on any flight ever.

Hmm - I do not power off my iPhone I just put it into flight mode and then turn it "off" on the top button so it goes to a blank screen...

Same for the iPad and for my laptop really.
