Hi Guys,

New starter here, I get on this awesome forum as much as I can, it has already help me acquire 50k of points thru cards and bonus points( Thanks to everyone on here) and I think I have reached my ceiling on the cards avenue.

Now to the next frequent flyer step in my hopefully long career of flying is to obtain as many FF points as possible then surprise my beautiful wife with around the world trip, sometime next year! and hopefully upgrade to business on a few of the longer runs with points..

Next month will see me start a new job that requires me to fly from Perth to Cairns return, once every month. (employer is paying the fairs)

I get a choice of flying options:

- Perth - Alice Springs - Cairns
- Perth - Ayres Rock - Cairns
- Perth - Sydney - Cairns
- Perth - Brisbane - Cairns

As a Qantas Bronze Frequent flyer with near on, no status points what would you choose? as your preference out of those 4 options ??

Sorry about not using location abbreviations... I'm still learning!!

Regards

Mick

just use the calculator on the qantas website and see which one yields the most scs :)

Per-SYD-CNS is the best as you get mainline equipment, that is IFE and 40 SC each way.

Would it be worth while to upgrade to business class every now and then and pay the difference?

Got a feeling you only get 35 SC one way but i could be wrong.

up to you but you dont get any extra points if you just upgrade.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Don't forget there's always JQ (Jetstar) PER to CNS direct... You can pay to get Points and Status Credits (SCs), but they only accrue at the Discount Economy rate, so you have to do more sectors to get increased status. But you could pay for exit row seating to make it a bit more bearable if really necessary.

Like someone else recommended, I'd be doing via BNE or SYD as you get proper jet aircraft (737s, 767s or A330s), not 717s or Dash 8s via ASP or AYQ. Also, the more sectors (point-to-point) you do, you earn points and SCs for each sector.

Aim for (re-)picking your seat after T-80 (80 hours before your flight) to get an exit row. You won't be able to select an exit row before T-80 as a Bronze. (I used to set reminders in my calendar: if you want to work out the time, use excel and use the DATEADD function and subtract 3.333 to get T-80 time).

Heck, if you company will pay for Business class each time, go for that!

Otherwise, select at least Saver fares, not Red eDeal fares, so that you get full points and SCs earning rate.

it looks as tho Perth - Sydney - Cairns wins with 160 status points and 6532 points, over the Perth - Brisbane - Cairns with 140/6488

Also, if you're trying to work out schedules and flight connections other than using QF's own booking engine, you can use google.

E.g Type in "Flights from PER to BNE" and you'll see an option where you can expand to see the full schedule for all airlines throughout the week. I find this handy to see best possible connecting options, and then use the QF booking engine to see if they suggest that connection.

The google option doesn't work for via searches (e.g. PER to CNS via BNE). :(

Arr I wish they would pay for business class!!! I think the company books thru a agent, so I will never see the booking, but I think it's economy class!!

So which lounge is the best..... SYD or BNE ???

Probably SYD. Both QP and J Lounge overlook planes in SYD whereas only J Lounge has Tarmac views in BNE. J lounge is larger in SYD too. (Need to be on J fare or WP to access J Lounges - or meet up with an accessible member.
