What is the point of 2-5-2 configuration? It's not the same old argument that instead of 2 passengers 2 seats away from the aisle there is only 1 passenger 2 seats away from the aisle?

In my opinion any aircraft with 5 abreast seating is truly horrible regardless of the width of the seats....

Only for the person in the middle seat :)

I get a better sleep on a 5 abreast if the aircraft is lightly loaded:mrgreen:
This is where being able to sleep in an upright position has its advantages. Can sit in exit row or bulkhead and still get some decent sleep.

With 2x5x2 config, only 11% of seats are more than two seats from an aisle. With a 3x3x3 config, 22% of seats are more than two seats from an aisle.

And on flight with a light load, a row of five seat makes for a longer flat bed than a row of 4.

PS. I am just quoting facts and not endorsing the 2x5x2 config.

I just got an email promoting the new Sydney Lounge:

Has anyone experienced it yet?

Well no, what it means is that you can have a window seat and only have to climb over 1 person rather than 2. And you'd have to be very unlucky (or not very resourceful) to get the middle seat in the 5-abreast.

All of UA's many 777's are configured 2-5-2 and I fly them quite often. Never had a problem with 2-5-2, in fact I think it's an excellent configuration. I have also flown many 777's from other airlines with 3-3-3 or 3-4-3 configurations and I hate it.

Sure that is an advantage if you like window seats in economy.

Unfortunately on full flights some passengers will be allocated a middle seat. I don't want to be one of those passengers....

Yes. It's far more spacious than the old lounge, and the food and drink offerings are marginally better (ask for the nougat at the bar, I reckon it's excellent). Unfortunately there's not really any view of the tarmac, but overall a huge improvement over the old lounge.

I used the new lounge today. You can get some views of the tarmac, but only while standing, and there are some stools that seem to get a view as well.
I was impressed by the lack of crush compared to the QP. I did try the nougat, very good with the good coffee.

No one has put any images up yet, so...

The section of lounge facing out over the piers & tarmac. (I wonder what is on the next level up? They would have a great view over the top of the air conditioning.)

The workstation/business area. Privacy has been abandoned for airy and light.

The part of the lounge furthest from the entry point, and adjacent to the terminal entrance road.

Nice look ............were these selective shots or are there no other customers????....lots of money spent for little uptake even if it is the weekend

Selective, although it was quiet at the time/day I took the pictures. Most people seemed to want to sit in the area adjacent to the feed trough. (Hence no pics uploaded of that area.) This new place is light years ahead of the old one, in terms of "space".
