Sorry for such a newbie question but I need a quick'ish response.

I am scheduled to fly QF1 this afternoon, the schedule departure is 410pm. I have just received a SMS advising that its delayed and now departing at 630pm. Sooo is it OK for me to get to the airport like at 430pm?

Should be OK, might not hurt to ring and confirm, I have heard of LCCs still insisting check in closes at normal time.

Hmmm. In these cases, flights can also be brought forward. Personally, I would get there at the normal time.

Hmmmmm I just checked-in online, the print out says 1745 boarding. I would assume its safe to get there 1630-1700.

I've only had this a few times, I have to admit I still turned up at the airport at the normal check in time. No one ever missed a flight because they where at the airport too early.

They often will board early, if they can, and depart early if ATC will let them. I would still get there at the normal time.

Agree with all of the above. I've had a situation before where a rescheduled departure was advised due to late inbound (was in the days of MEL-HKG-LHR-HKG-MEL and the previous rotation had been delayed due to typhoon in the HKG area). In the end, the recheduled departure was brought forward by about 90 mins as QF flew a replacement aircraft down from Sydney (or so we were told).

BD

Don't be so sure about that, it depends on how much you have to drink in the lounge waiting for your flight ... well I guess it could, not that I'd know anything about something like that happening ;)

Just to update, QF contacted me via phone to confirm I had received the SMS notification and that the flight is now scheduled at 630pm tonight and it was OK to get there around 430pm or so. It means I can work in the office till 4pm before heading off, rather than leaving at lunch time. Of course if I was WP I would have left early to enjoy lunch in the F Lounge but given I am not, I didn't want to spend 4 or more hours in the J lounge.

Top marks to QF here, for firstly the SMS notification and then the telphone contact.
