Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

On a Saturday night? But more importantly what was the wine?

Sorry.. didn't get the "lamb roast" memo ;) :)
But thanks for asking about the wine!
Nothing special.. a couple of glasses of Moet (something sweet and bubbly during the afternoon) and the last bottle of the St Huberts Rousanne 2015 which is really easy drinking with lemon butter roasted chicken marylands and tomato salad :) as it is all gone :) :)
Didn't even use the fancy glasses.. just a big sippy cup ;) :)

The Chapel Hill was a steal.

For a 2008, that's steal! I bought three of The Vicar at cellar door back around 2000 or thereabouts (before I started keeping track of my flights, so I can't remember exactly when I was down in McLaren Vale). I think I paid mid-thirties or so. It was a great wine - pity I didn't have any good way of cellaring them, and the last one was ruined.

Tried a bottle of the Wynns black label 2006 cab sav the other night. Last had a bottle in March 2013, and was not all that impressed with it.

In the 3 years the wine has developed nicely, with complex flavours and bottle age now showing through. It might be at its best in 12-18 months time.

I would have thought it should just be entering its drinking window and go for at least another 10 years if well cellared.

My first impression was not very good but this has opened up and is very drinkable - I think I will keep drinking the rest rather than putting them away for later

I was a little startled as I thought it was very good, then realized I have the '12 and passed on the '13 from the Fo. I thought some on here mentioned the '13 was as good as the '12?

I only have the 13 so cannot comment on it against the 12. The 13 is an ok quaffer (IMO, YMMV) but I was expecting it to be a lot more.

I'm not going to return it, as I did enjoy it - I'm just not going to tie up valuable space in a Vintec with it

Rich, complex and powerful Coonawarra Cab Sav. Should be drank on special occasion, or an uneventful Sunday afternoon ;)

Interesting. I do think the '12 is better than the '13, but the '13 is also quite good - above a quaffer.

Campbell Mattinson gave it a 96 and "drink to 2035" in the Wine Companion.

Edit: will have to crack open another to see what the family thinks - maybe keep the '12 and quaff the '13? or split the risk and keep a couple of each? argh!

Heavens BC20, have you not been following! Sunday is Pinot night.
Tonight a new label from Gibbston Valley CO.
"Bright cherry and plum aromatics lead to a palate that is full and silky. With a distinct poise and presence, this wine is clothed in fine Pinot beauty."

Pretty apt description, not as sweet as many of the young COs. Nice quaffing Pinot with salmon pasta on a Sunday night followed by watching episodes 6-13 of House of Cards. (After Doc Martin, of course.)

Dropped into my local Danny M's for a carton of cold frothies and like a moth drawn to a flame I surely could not pass up the Wolf Blass tasting.

Firstly, the Grey Label blend 2013 - very nice. Good fruit, good weight and nicely balanced. Still young, but plenty, plenty of promise.
Secondly, the Brown Label 2013 - not enough of an end palate for me, sweet fruited, oak integrated nicely, but just doesn't finish as well as I would expect.
Thirdly, Platinum. This is a real beauty and I think it was the 2013 as well. Beautiful everything, and at over one hundred and thirty, you would hope so. Not over oaked, not too fruity, just seamless. Loved it as you can guess.
Fourthly, the 40th anniversary Black. Nice enough, nice to get a free sample, but after the others, I felt it was understated. Just didn't give me the wow as the platinum did.
Lastly, I went back to the Grey blend to see how it would go after two 'powerhouses'.
It went damn well. My second favourite after the Platinum. Brown came in fourth.
I passed up on the straight grey shiraz so cannot comment on this one, but all in all, a pleasant segue after the visit to the beautifully chilled cool room.
