Really enjoying the Hungerford Hill. I will be baking some bread in the wood fired oven tomorrow and was going to crack a Frugal Farmer but I think I will reconsider - maybe I should have a gallon of extra virgin olive oil and a bottle of Alicante Bouchet with it instead

Dr. Durif came to visit tonight with Ballerina Canopy 2009. I'm big fan of Gapsted Durifs and this vintage is one of the best I've had.
Got it at cellar door 6 years ago, opened a bottle back then and one more 3 years later.
This is my last bottle I can say it drinks perfectly now but wish I had a few more left.

I had the privilege of opening another Elderton Command, on this fine, lazy Sunday evening.

This one: the Elderton Command Single Vineyard Shiraz 2006

On Cellar Tracker and Vivino, I have posted the following tasting note:

http://http://www.cellartracker.com/w?534632

"A powerful (still young) fruit bomb 4.1 (C.T. 94) from me. Straight off, this is not as good as the 05. But it has all the Command characteristics I love. The nose is intense, as black cherries, blackberries, gooseberries, sandalwood, white pepper and cola flood the senses. The palate is so smooth, yet so powerful, as those flavours unravel, leaving a warm lingering white pepper, sea salt, eucalyptus and sandalwood finish. No scorched earth (yet). But still a fine wine in the making.
I picked up a 6 pack from Langtons, and suspect many others did too. At $50 a bottle, I couldn't resist. Given its more fruit forward than the 05 at this 10 yr point, I wonder if this will have more longevity than the 05.

I'll give it another 5yrs ..."

It's only my second Command, but I can see me falling for this wine as an all time favourite. Thanks AnonymousCoward for your tasting notes on this thread that inspired me to try a few vintages of this excellent wine. Much appreciated.

Note: for those curious on the C.T. 94 reference. That's me scoring this Command a 94 on Cellar Tracker. I'll try to include my C.T. scores in future TNs, as some may find this more helpful than the 1-5 Vivino scoring.

Well Clarendon Hills would normally be in the same bucket as Penfolds - Astralis will age just as well as Grange.

This talk of Clarendon Hills pushed me towards a Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Shiraz 2006 for tonight:

Rhone Report 92, Halliday 96, and 91 on CT. Was expecting good things. It wasn't, in my opinion, as overpowering as some reviewers have noted. It certainly had a balance of fruit and earthy flavours, and a lack of obvious tannins, leading to a very long finish on the palate without drying out your mouth. This is 3/4 bottles for me - been opening 1/year since 2014, and this is the pick of the bunch so far. An unfortunate accident with the table the bottle was sitting on resulted in a loss of about 1/3 bottle not to mention the shattered glass of the bottle and a couple of glasses. Have opened a quaffer to tide over the rest of the evening.

Inspired by Steady, I decided to give a few cheapies from Langtons auctions a try. It would be interesting if nothing else, and at an average price of $8 no big deal if some of them had to be sacrificed to the sink gods.

First up is a George Wyndham 2004 Shiraz. After a bit of trouble with the cork (I'm so inexperienced with them being new to wine scene!) I was treated to a nice nose of berries and chocolate. On tasting, plums and something earthy, with a smooth, long finish.

Pretty happy with my start, and way more fun than opening another great value quaffer from the Fo!

My wine club met last night with Semillon being the theme. Far various reasons, only four of us could make it, so six bottles seemed good :) The Vat 1 was a unanimous WOTN.

Ah well it's still very enjoyable. Better than last year when they 'ran out' and were too cheap to crack a second bottle.

Another Langton's special tonight, a 2001 Shiraz - $8 inc delivery and I have 2 more.

This is very nice - velvety with a long finish.

Tonight.......sheesh it gets dark down there very quickly. Back here, I was just finishing an Oceans, not a 3-Oceans, 2011 Semillon(60%), Sauv Blanc(40%) which is a stunner I bought thru Grays a few years ago(a few cases). Out tonight for Thai so have a Rose and Chardonnay chilling. Time to leave the reds at home as have to work Saturday.

Now, you will like this. I will be returning the 2014 Twins GSM as I could not handle the pepperiness and swapped it for - ready Steady (sorry) Go - the beautiful 2014 Dog Box Shiraz . Nice. I know you're smiling !

Enjoy that red......you have picked some great stuff up here, and I have no doubt that this is your new direction...at least in the short term. Cheers !

Friday night Chardonnay: extraordinary one tonight.

Really exceptional. One of the best of the year. Took a little while to open up and rewarded the large Zalto glass.

Light oak, malo nose. Exceptional depth of flavour with very long aftertaste. White peach, grapefruit.

Yum.
