Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

I was activating a drinks fridge inside my wine cellar yesterday and I found a second Penfolds 707 that I hadn’t realized was there.
That is a great wine for special occasions and yes it is better than Grange in my opinion. I just wish it was still around $100 to $200 but Treasury Wine changed all the good stuff pricing.

I'm a fan of 707 as well.

I go 707,Hill of Grace, MossWood and then Diana if I am not thinking with my pocket.

I use to looked forward for tasting hill of grace/rose and mount edelstone, I bought cases of mount Edelstone as a cheaper/more bottle option as I found the quality aren’t that far off . When I discovered standish wines from the 2010 vintage and at the same time the mount edelstone gone up over $200, standish Shiraz(all of them) are clearly my choice of purchase. No more henchke or Penfolds.

I wonder how many of us are put off by sticker shock that Penfolds and others have inflicted on us.
In France my brother has been buying an Aldi red and says it is an equivalent of Grant Burge. Of course he has friends who drink like fish at his dinner parties down at the chateau so that is a pretty big win.

you mean wine show stickers?where did you see a penfolds wine with stickers?my parents loves aldi wines, they also drink cask wines, not a problem as long as the person that drinks it likes it.

The Penfolds pricing is now at suckers level.
If we get old enough we might lose the senses of taste and smell so we will be able to drink some of the rough stuff and not notice.

they are but they are too proud of themselves to stick a wine stickers on because the wines in those wine shows arent at the same level of quality.

i have the same feeling of what those cask wines are for.

oh my bad, as long as the market is still running in china, we will never see a big cut from it. my last purchase was the 2012 vintage, heavy discount of course, with cashrewards and gift cards.

It’s ok sticker shock is probably used more in the US and yes the market assesses the price as being too high.

i'm not sure if what i'm about to say is true but i heard alot of people talk about penfolds are much cheaper in other countries and they prefer to buy them overseas.

We can get Penfolds cheaper in Australia at 30-50% RRP on various labels up to RWT level. I’m slowly building nice collection all of which purchased at reasonable costs that give or take reflects the true value of each label.

The last bin389 2012 I bought was around $42 after discount(gift cards + cashrewards). I haven’t see that price anymore after that. Nowadays $60 maybe? For $60 might get some st Henri over 389.less oak better wine.

I got doz 389 2014 last year for ~$45 each.
Hopefully we’ll see some attractive offers this year.

I invest all my ex-Penfolds funds to italian wines now. If it goes back to that price again I will consider.
