Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Slightly OT, but AFF favourite, The Olive Tree in South Melbourne currently has a slow cooked beef cheek on the specials board. Have had twice. Sensational. @Mickeyc747 had it last night.

Braised Beef Cheeks
Slow cooked for 6 hrs in red wine, tomato & fresh thyme, Served on cream potato mash w gremolata

The vinolok is a relatively new innovation, so the museum wines wouldn't be under it. Also it's more expensive, so the whole range isn't under it.

not that new i think, my 09 mount edelstone started with the glass stopper until 2012 then they stopped , everywhere i read is screwcap from 2013 onwards. cant say for sure but the only ones that are on glass stopper now are just hill of grace/rose, i have never tried the other 4 wines that is on that wine list.

The 2014 HoG was under screw cap.

first i was worried that the glass stopper might not be as good as they said so they went back to screwcap, but it turns out henschke does sort of half half in production, so both still exists.

I loved the 1990 Hill of Grace. Is it still memorable Daver6? Mine are all gone!

Past its best IMHO. Was good, but that's it. A bit disappointing to be honest but could also just be bottle variation. Nothing faulty, just a wine on the downward slope. The '94 was in marginally better shape but also past its best. So you've done well in consuming them all.

Interesting.

I recall them saying something about them having the "luxury" to experiment with both Stelvin and vinolok, and the difference is negligable compared to cork, which is of course [potentially] significant.

However I am pretty sure the 2014 HoG which I recently enjoyed was under vinolok. I'll try and check the stock when I next visit Kennards.

Received these earlier this week and just finished our tasting of the new Marius, 2017 seem like another good vintage ,I took the cap off in the morning Then come home put the cap back on and pack them up for dinner. The 2 shiraz are outstanding as usual, this second release of mataro is new to me, I hardly drink or buy any straight mataro.
Here comes the end play, it is a mystery blend , the last vintage was shiraz/semillon? This is nothing close to it. I be surprise if this only has 2 different blend in it again.

A members special at DM at the moment for $19. Very subtle for a Barossa Shiraz , goes great with pizza, very smooth

Pity I had like a gazillion beers before getting to dinner (who would have thought a mining function would have such great wines )

From what I can actually remember the 389 was great (as expected), really enjoyed the port, but hey all is good when you've had more than you should. I didn't try the Chard but comments around the table suggested it was pretty good.

It's been a long time between drinks - or at least posts - here for me, so be prepared for quite a few wines :)

First up are mostly chardonnays from Dan's clearance, with the notable exceptions of Dexter and Drumborg:

Highlights were Lethbridge and Kumeu, with honourable mentions to Scorpo and Voyager, whilst Dexter and Mentelle remain favourites

Next are two from my cellar that had been waiting to be opened and were for my son's birthday:

The 864 was perhaps one of the last top Yarra chardonnays that I had yet tasted, but wanting to as so far I have enjoyed them from elsewhere more - now having done so, I can say that I like good Yarra chardonnays with significant age, but still seem to prefer those from Mornington, Hunter, Adelaide Hills, Margaret River

I've recently started drinking the Dan's clearance pinots, with the standouts so far being Victorian:

Others out of the cellar from past purchases elsewhere:

The Heirloom was an early WineMarket mystery from five years ago, whilst the Punt Road 2015 and Bay of Fires 2017 are probably my biggest buys of those vintages, along with Hoddles Creek

Lastly for the time being since I can apparently only attach ten files to a post, other varieties:

The Uberblanc, Mentelle, Gomas were all fantastic as usual, whilst the Collector was/is deliciously ready to drink now and purchased during dinner at Downstairs Bistro & Lounge in Southbank pre-concert/theatre (recommended, the special wine and cheese list has better wines at better value than their drinks list, including a single site/block Dalrymple pinot noir which I had), though I also have a bottle in the cellar - the Yalumba great value at <$10

I sincerely hope not and it's just bottle variation as I still have one in my cellar :)

The Voyager just pipped the Mount Mary for me, though the Kumeu was also good - and I'm not being biased just because I brought them :)
