No Audio in "J"

Given that DJ and QF are pretty much the same pricing, and that you get free food/drinks on QF & free IFE either via seatback, drop down or even just audio, it seems that Virgin thought about proper IFE, looked at their cash-flow and profits and then said "No" let's go "full service" and forget about IFE.

Funnily enough lack of IFE is one reason why I am now back to Qantas for most domestic flights, this year, that combined with 10 QFF points per $1 spent.....

A single thing is unlikely to change my flying habit, but a combination of service offerings provides me with my own measure of value for money. As DJ's J creeps up in price to within sight of QF's, my flying preference, when there is an option, will start to swing back to QF as they do a better and so far more consistent J class.

So long as DJ's J with P+P is about equivalent to PE pricing though its a no brainer - for the value, DJ's current (transcon) J service is good value.

OK then - the iPad (should) suck less than a digiplayer as IFE.

Sure, people get very vocal on internet forums about it, but in reality it doesnt sway the majority of purhasers towards one airline or another. Price and schedule are still the biggest deciders.

If price and schedule were the two major considerations, everyone would be on JQ or TT. I've said previously, DJ have made sweeping changes (predominently for the better) but their "price" changes have them teetering on the edge of affordability for me at least. If I was ife dependant, that may well have been the tipping point. As it is, I don't often fly transcon, which is about the only sector that I deem ife as a necessity.

Don't for one minute believe that flyers like me have the choice of all DJ or all QF or all JQ and nothing in between. Presently, I fly (almost) all DJ because the perks suit me and it still (just) works financially but I flew BFOD for years and you'd better believe that I'm very close to returning to that premise. Make the airlines work for me rather than me for them and take whoever offers the best deal of the day. Lounges are nice, but I can return to a wider variety of food offering in the foodcourts if necessary.

DJ are right to make changes, but they (or anyone else) should not whinge if pax reject their offerings. Lack of credible ife and their F&B offerings (in flight mainly) have been two changes that DJ have failed monumentally on. I'm waiting patiently to see if they will/can correct it, but those failures, coupled with the escalating fares may well see me (and presumably others like me), change our flying policies before they get around to fixing it (if indeed they have any desire to fix it).

Stage II ife.........that might be a bit like waiting for a flight on Virgin Galactic.

Yes, and thats the thing isn't it? Theres no point in me flying an airline today for the experience that they might provide me tomorrow. You fly today at todays pricing and todays service levels.

Absolutely agree with your post, as stated in my original post something as simple as being able to use a set of headphones before take-off has been a game changer. I have today for the first time in 3 years booked a QF flight. It’s all about choice, the product is a mistake!
