I'm in the SYD F lounge and needed to scan a doc and e-mail off.

Asked at the front desk and told, without hesitation - "No, no scanning allowed airside in international terminal - immigration are worried that since you are out of the country, blah blah".

No worries, I thought, I'll just photograph the docs on my phone and email from there. But on immediate reflection it seemed bizarre to me, so I went and tried the scanner function on one of the copiers.

Yes, of course it worked. Scanned to USB without a problem.

I don't understand what they think immigration would be so worked up about?

Usual little white lie to cover the fact that they don't know the answer, don't know how to operate the machine or don't care.

Quite an inventive excuse. Which makes no sense.

What's wrong with saying: "I'm not sure if we that have that facility - but let me find out for you straight-away."

I was trying to print and scan in the QP in ADL recently and couldn't get the printer to work and the staff were great and printed it for me and then scanned it. Got a phone call later in the day to say some stuff had come off the printer and did I want it :)

Have only once used a QFF lounge computer (MEL J) and was very amused by the unmissable "THIS IS NOT A GENUINE COPY OF WINDOWS" notification. I guess they aren't using atrocious award taxes to pay for legitimate software...

Had the same problem in the Business Lounge in Canberra, need to scan some urgent documents but was not able to, staff tried as well, then said could I fax it, but no Fax, in the end Took copies with my IPad and sent it that way.
