Despite it (still) showing on Virgins benefits page there is no lounge availability for VA Gold and Plats when flying from BNE on Hawaiian Airlines. The VA benefits page states that the Air NZ lounge is available but in fact that lounge does not open for the 2155 HA flight. Apparently HA now use the Qantas lounge but I was told that is only for their BC pax, no access for VA status pax. Pretty disappointing, especially since we had specifically phoned VA to confirm that we would be able to use the ANZ lounge and were told that -Ye s it is open for Plat members and guests as per the VA benefits page. But when 3 Plats plus 3 (very excited) grandchildren arrived at the ANZ lounge we were met with a notice that it was shut and reopened at 5.00am !!! - it was a very very big letdown and an unfortunate hiccup at the start of a much looked forward to and long planned family holiday. Not good enough Virgin.

Interested to hear their formal response, especially after you phoned them specifically about it.

Enjoy your holiday :)

Can I safely assume that an AA J award ticket (HA dep:2155) with QF status will gain access to the QF Int lounge (+ 1 Y guest on same flight) @ BNE?

I dont have status with QF so cant answer that - Im sure someone else here can.

Surely there's enough demand at BNE International now for VA to open their own lounge? Or is there not enough space currently?

Yes but it's due to the Class of Service, nothing to do with QF status eg. flying in Y on a HA flight even if ticketed as an AA Award will not get you lounge access.
