No more 747 F services to LAX

QF have confirmed that from June 1 there will be no more F cabin 747s to LAX, with a gradual withdrawal leading up to that date.

It's not all bad news.

The refurb'ed 747s with the A380 Y/PE/J seats will be taking over.

For J travellers this is great news IMHO with Skybed IIs replacing the Skybed Is

F is obviously still on the A380 QF11/12... at least until it's "enhanced" :shock:

When thinking about my loyalty to Qantas I suspect that a lot of it is irrationally tied up in the occasional op-up to F. Reducing the potential for this may finally make me reconsider.

I am on QF 15 in June with F seating but sold as J product so there will still be some 747 aircraft presumably with F service capability?

Not for long.

As soon as they finish refitting the 747's there won't be any F outside of the 380's.

Aircraft subs are more likely on your route - where an old 747 gets subbed for a new one and you get J seating as a result.

QF 11/93 or 12/94 are unlikely to be subbed going forward. And if they do, then there will be unhappy F pax on that flight

The A380 might be a better solution for solo travellers, and it does offer compromises for couples travelling together, but I'll miss the great flights I've had on the 747 with groups of 3-6 people flying together.

The are only reportedly refitting 9 747s of a fleet of more than 20.
Whilst there will be retirements this year I suspect some will have F for a few more years to come yet.

With the retirements there will be no F cabin aircraft by June 1 next year, there was only 18 in the fleet to start with that had it.

Does anyone know if they just operate the same a/c back and forth LAX-JFK (which they would have done with the A330), or do a number of 747 a/c now do the whole QF107/108 route SYD-LAX-JFK and back?

I've got F seating LAX-JFK in July and I'm hoping it's the one a/c operating the route back and forth as that may mean its lower down the list for a refurb and therefore I get to actually try out the 747 F cabin at least once in my life!

The 747 is ex Aus at all times, not LOTFAP based, and it will change to a three class.

Qantas is to remove all first class seating from the 744 it retains.

Ok that answers the question - I wasn't sure if they had a US based 744 like they did with the A330.
