The flight used to need to be a 'Saver' fare to be able to redeem. Does anyone know if it is now a 'Gateway' fare that needs to be available to be able to redeem the flight?

The credit can be used for any fare, disc whY, flex whY, J, F etc. you may need to call to get flex whY

Thanks Steady. I should have included in my question that I wish to redeem the flight before the 30 March 2017 cutoff, so was after which Virgin fare type (Gateway, Elevate, Freedom) needs to be available in order to redeem.

I believe it is actually the Elevate fare class, happy to be corrected though.

The plat edge free flight requires T, Q or V classes to be available. If these classes aren't available then you can't use the plat edge free flight.

This is almost irrelevant as the flight will soon be no more, but I was under the impression that the free flight would not gain me any Velocity Miles or status credits. I used my flight recently and got both, including my Velocity Silver 50% bonus. Have you guys experienced this previously?

They never used too, but since the changes they may well be booking into eligible fare classes

I thought that was the case. For what's it's worth my ticket stated a V fare. The only other thing I did was pay for an emergency exit row seat. I was also offered an Upgrade Me deal which again I didn't think should be the case. Pity the flight is no more- I got great value from it!

Interesting and good to know. Particularly for those with the AMEX Velocity Platinum card that still has the free flight (for now).
