I am a Velocity Silver member and currently have a balance of 280 SCs (none expiring until at least May).

I am planning a trip from HBA-MEL-SIN-PVG in April. The difference between a saver fare and a flexi fare is only about $200 on this route.

If I buy a flexi fare, would I earn full economy points and status credits rather than discount economy? What letter code fare does a Flexi fare book you in with VA? And because the international portion is codeshared and run by SQ, does that alter the number of points I earn? Do I still earn points for the sector HBA-MEL and how would it be calculated? By just miles?

Should I book into a flexi fare in the hope that this will get me nearer to upgrading to Gold, or should I just buy the cheapest fare?

Many thanks.

As long as you book codeshare flights with VA flight numbers on a Flexi ticket you will earn status credits at the full economy rate. If you book saver fares you will earn status credits on the VA flights but the Singapore flight will only earn status credits if you get the right fare class (basically anything by T, V and Q - NB: these a VA flight classes as your booking code share).
