No show - last sector?

Hi,

My wife and I are travelling to HK over Dec/Jan, our itinerary is as follows in J:

ADL-MEL-HK
HK-MEL-ADL

What I'm wanting to know is, what would happen if we don't show up to our MEL-ADL booking? Would we still get credited our SCs for HK-MEL? Or do you need to complete all sectors for SCs to be credited?

You do not need to fly MEL ADL (of course you will not earn that sector)

When you check in in HKG, ensure the ground staff only check you in as far as MEL. Even though you have picked up your bags up and cleared customs, the system shows your bags as through checked and a bag search will begin when you no show.

Seeing that the OP would collect their bags in MEL for customs, would the system be able to identify the bags were never loaded onto the ADL plane?

No, the bag count would be short but the ground staff would still be required to check all the bags on board to ensure they were not loaded. I have personally done this before, I was supposed to be flying from LAX-SYD-MEL once, I decided to stay in SYD for an extra day, I just asked the LAX staff to only check me as far as SYD.

Best thing to do after collecting your bags is to go to the Virgin desk and advise then you have a personal emergency and cannot continue travelling. Assure them you have your bags and they haven't been checked in for the domestic leg.

This will allow them to remove you from the next flight with no dramas.

We've had this discussion in another thread. Apparently the default is that you are deemed to be continuing on the domestic sector even if you have not checked your bags for the domestic sector.

Sabre sees the extra flights and one is checked in accordingly, HKG-MEL-ADL, and boarding passes issued. The bag is indeed in the system for the MEL-ADL flight and you have a seq number.

If you no show the flight they will have to offload, but depending on a few things it might not happen before flight close, so you might trigger new paperwork being issued. I would ask the check in at HKG to check you only through to MEL. If they're unable to do that, I would make up a story and tell the check in or service desk in MEL that you can't make it to ADL. More as a courtesy.
