NoNames Xmas Vacation (A Little Bit Of Everywhere)

Day 35

We departed LAX on 17 January and landed in SYD on 19 January so should this be day 35 or day 36? Who knows! And frankly, with exhaustion well and truly set in from both the trip itself and writing about it, it may be too complicated to think about. I’m going with day 35! 😂

We deplaned and made a beeline for immigration. Massive line of course at this time of morning but didn’t take as long as we expected. Maybe half an hour and we were through to collect the bags. Of course this was a shemozzle. With the delay in bag #3 making its way onto the conveyor and then a slow moving line to check what we had declared, it was quite a while longer until we were actually through. We got to the transit area quickly after but then the bag drop, security check and wait for the bus slowed us down once again. Eventually we arrived at T3 however what was 2.5hr transit had all but been evaporated. A planned visit to the J lounge for a shower had to be scrapped in favour of a brisk walk to the gate for immediate boarding. :(

We got to the gate with most of the plane having already boarded. Arrived at our row to find it already occupied by a woman and child. Pointed out that they may have the wrong seat which prompted a story of them being allocated seats in different rows. Suspect they may have been a last minute booking on some kind of staff travel as she appeared to know the FAs & Captain. In any event, I had selected 3 seats all in the same row 11 months earlier so her story wasn’t really my problem. Still, she appeared to have an entitled attitude and continued to try to negotiate some sort of solution in her favour so Mrs NoName just bit the bullet and sat elsewhere. And so…..

After the pre-departure drama, the final flight of the holiday was uneventful. NoName Jnr & I relaxed together while Mrs NoName did her own thing.

Had some lunch which was just a cheese toasted sandwich, as well as a few glasses of the Danelion Shiraz. Have mentioned earlier in the report that we have had this at home and find it an enjoyable drop.

NoName Jnr pinched the chocolate ball from my plate and may even have asked for a couple extra. One last indulgence for him perhaps? Played a couple of iphone games to pass the time while we waited for landing.

Touched down, off to collect the bags one last time and then into a taxi. 20 minutes later we were pulling up at our front door. We were totally exhausted and excited to be home. What a trip it had been! Memories that will last a lifetime!

Thorougly enjoyable trip trport @NoName well done. As I said earlier this has to be one of the most epic trips you could take with your child(ren) and will be hard (actually I'd almost say impossible) to top.
Bravo!

Thanks everyone for the kind words, glad you all enjoyed it. Did notice many typos throughout though so may need to improve the proofreading skills if I want to go pro. 😂

We definitely loved the trip and in early stages of planning a return to the ski slopes for a couple of years time. It was NoName Jnr’s number 1 highlight so keen to get back to Whistler again.

A couple of quick additions as I noticed I missed some details of some of the flights:

  • FRA-JFK - SQ - booked as a KF miles redemption - J-Saver - cost 72,000 KF miles + €118.98 per PAX booked in mid-January 2022
  • JFK-YYC - WS - booked as QFF Classic Award - cost 20,000 QFF pts + US$5.60 per PAX booked in May 2022
  • YYC-YVR - WS - booked as QFF Classic Award - cost 10,000 QFF + C$64.87 per PAX booked in July 2022

Until next trip……
