Norfolk Air- SYDMEL $1

Just to chime in a bad review from us. We were supposed to be on this flight today from SYD to MEL. The flight has been cancelled due to weather delays on Norfolk Island. We have to contact the CEO, and weren't accommodated on any other flight. Thank god for travel insurance, otherwise our plans would be severely altered.

Shame that we did not hear anything from the airline until we were about to check in.

We'll let people know how it goes.

Hope you successfully ended up in Melbourne, and looking forward to reading the specifics of what happened with Oz Jet, including who your insurance was with & what it covered.

I was looking at arrival and departure information for QF74 today and noticed that O7332 flying in from NLK has been re-scheduled to arrive at 16:15 almost 6 hours later than the original scheduled arrival of 10:20.

What is happening with Ozjet?

I am due to travel on the SYD-MEL flight next Friday (11 Jan), and am feeling decidely nervous right now....

futaris....very interested in your experience....

I would seriously suggest you get some travel insurance happening, Ozjet seem to be falling apart a little... ;) . Did you pay with a CC that has some decent cover?

Paid on a credit card without travel insurance, however should be covered by my annual business travel insurance policy via Covermore....might drag the policy out just to refresh my memory ;)

We got a letter from Becky Nobbs confirming the delay and cancellation of our flight, late Tuesday afternoon.

Our annual travel insurance is with COMPUSURE PTY. LTD, Underwritten by American Home Assurance Company. I just sent off the insurance claim earlier today, so I doubt I'll hear back till early next week.

creeno, hope you don't have the hiccups that we had. I suggest you ring and reconfirm your flight, or at the very least check syd.com.au before you leave for checkin.

At least if we had known about the delay, I would have returned the rental car at the domestic terminal, and organised a flight before arriving at the airport. Shame we couldn't get on the same QANTAS 11:00 flight as my sister-in-law, and we left at around 13:30.

On a plus note, at least I had a couple of QANTAS Club vouchers that went to good use, since we had to hang around the terminal for 2-3hrs.

Good to hear you made it to Melbourne.

BUT don't be too hard on Ozjet/Norfolk not informing you until you got to the airport! Over the last week or so, I have developed severe brain strain from reading copious insurance policies, I note that some don't cover situations where you knew of the cancellation/delay prior to beginning your trip (which they define as the time you left your home/business to commence travel). So keeping people informed, may well prove a double edged sword on some policies.

In regards to your claim, I assume you are not just claiming the $1 back, in lieu of the non-refundable fare, (which seems to be the most many policies will admit liability for, if anything) but the cost of purchasing a replacement airfare on Qantas, to actually get you to your (final?) destination?

Finally, please also keep us up to date, with the response from the insurance company, regarding your claim. Here's hoping for a successful outcome.

creeno,

Looks like your flight had no problems, and was on time. I guess we just lucked out. :(

Arrived safely in Melbourne today - a little turbulent due to the winds in MEL, but otherwise a smooth flight....very pleased to have made it safely and without drama :)

good luck with your claim futaris...

Good news. I just received a cheque from AIG / American Home Assurance covering the full cost of the two discount economy (10SC/pp) fares on QANTAS. We only had to pay the $100 excess for the two tickets. I wonder if we could have purchased more expensive economy tickets and gotten back the full amount, minus the $100 excess?

We've just changed annual insurance to a different company that is advertised on Qantas, Virgin Blue, and Jetstar Air Cheap Flights & Airfares - Webjet Travel Insurance - Webjet.com.au for Jan 2008-2009, who are slightly cheaper and don't have an excess for flight cancellations. I hope that claims are just as easy. They're arranged by Mondial and underwritten by Allianz.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but Norfolk Air are discontinuing this service. We were probably one of the last people to fly on these $1 fares (15 Aug).

Norfolk Air regrets to inform you of a schedule change to flight 07338 from Norfolk Island to Sydney from Friday 5th September 08. This flight will no longer be flying Norfolk Island/Sydney/Melbourne and will now become a direct Norfolk to Melbourne service.

We understand the inconvenience of this change and the impact it will have on your booking and would like to offer you a full refund for your flight from Sydney to Melbroune.

They've already refunded all my other bookings...

I heard that they are supposed to be getting newer planes that can fly direct from Norfolk Island to Melbourne. The old 737-200 couldn't make it without stopping to refuel due to the reduced runway length.

Anyhow, flight was good, and even got a sandwich and a biscuit. I can post a slightly longer travel report with some pics, if anyone is interested.

It would be interesting to see some pics - I always romatically imagined this as a flying boat service
