Not taking much notice on QF609 last Monday as we were about to take off. I'm not sure if we'd just pulled on to runway or were still on a taxiway but wherever we were, we turned, straightened, then did a very weird 'swerve'.
We seemed to slowly straighten up and I thought that was odd, I wonder if we somehow weren't in the middle of the runway. Then we slowly kept going. Noone around me seemed to notice. I kept thinking are we going to power up and I'm looking across to the window and thought we're not on the runway. Then we stopped. Then the pilot came on and said "passengers and crew remain in seats. More information to come".
Then the fire engines arrived!
We sat there for a while. The captain came on again and told us there'd been a steering gear failure. Apparently there'd also been some smoke that he said some people might have seen. We eventually powered up again and went back to the terminal. Not sure if the steering had somehow fixed itself or if it was all with rudder. Is that even possible?
Sat at a gate with the fire engines beside us, captain went off and had a gander. At one point I thought we were going to pull back and have another go but when I saw the jackets come out of the locker I knew we were going nowhere. We were moved on to another flight and left just on two hours late.
Apparently it had quite a flow-on effect on everything following us, as my boss found out
Better this happened when it did than as we touched down at Tullamarine!!
Last night I got 15 random status credits dated last Monday with Qantas let us reward you beside them. Not sure if it's related to Monday morning or not.
Just another Monday commute
