I hope you took this serious negligence to twitter and tagged VA in this, throw in the below gif while you're at it and tag TT and ACA also. This needs to be dealt with.

This thread has been very enlightening as to some people's thinking about what their position on the totem pole entitles them to. Some people's expectations are far different to mine! I'm going to be back to QFF WP again in a little over a month. That's going to be nice - puts me higher up the priority list for points upgrades than gold, and means a soft landing to gold in 15 months time if I don't do a lot of flying in the next year.

But...
  • if the CSM says Welcome Back Mr RSD at the door that's nice, but if he doesn't - so what? I'm not going to lose my cough over it or start a thread on here about it - its inconsequential
  • I don't expect the FA's to remember my name - I'm just the guy in 61A - but hopefully closer to the pointy end thanks to an upgrade
  • If the crew are polite, professional and smile that is all I expect - their job is help get me to my destination safely and somewhere about on time - its not to sing happy friggin birthday to me - its an airline not Hooters!

It doesn't really worry me if I get greeted by name or not.interestingly nearly every time I board a QF flight i get welcome back drron.I think it might be those 2 letters in front of my name rather than my NB status. :D
Occasionally it is nice when you get to know the staff. For a few years i was regularly flying into DPO on the last flight on Sunday.Virtually always the same CSM who then greeted me with-glad to have you back working for us drron.

But also from 2006-2012 we regularly flew NRT-DFW and sometimes return on AA in F.Always SWUs or an award.Nearly always had the same purser and we hit it off.If he was serving on mrsdrron's side and my FA asked what I would like to drink he would say go back to the galley and get the pinot noir.he really likes that wine. And I really did.

What annoyed me most was when we were flying long haul and mrsdrron was WP and I a lowly OWS,apart from CX who would get it right, I was always greeted and mrsdrron ignored on most occasions.

I'm QP and cross the ditch regularly in Y. The welcome is varied from a hug on boarding to a "we don't give extras to QPs". However on my last trip I was gives a toilet pass from the CSM to use the toilet in J in case the crew did not recognise me . It was an express arrival card with my seat number and name. Business class headphones and a drink from the J bar, and snack all offered. Even on domestic there is a personal welcome on boarding, but that's all.

I’m VA Platinum top 1% and just flew In J on my birthday to Auckland. Didn’t get personalised welcome or any acknowledgment.
I know it’s first world problem but this is sort stuff that would make me jump the ship
Mmmm pretty doubtful you would know that you are top 1% of platinum seeing as they dont publish that info. They publish who is in the top 1% for velocity redemptions but that means nothing.

I can only assume you are joking that you wanted a "happy birthday"? Surely you aren't that self absorbed that you feel this is required. I am platinum and the last thing I would want is a staff member giving me a happy birthday, this would be downright cringe worthy.

Amusing to see a few jump on the OP with their very personal opinions about what they think of the OP. Their comprehension was a bit off too because the OP did not ask for birthday wishes. :)
One poster couldn’t believe that the the OP wasted their time because they had to read so much in the first post below (2 lines), and then they went on to write multiple paragraphs on their opinions some of which were unnecessarily insulting.
It’s far as I’m concerned, if somebody wishes to feel peeved that’s up to them. I’m not keen on mass criticism just for the sake of it.

Oh dear. What a dreadful situation in which to find oneself And you in the top one per cent of royalty! Goodness one, bion, We who are mere golds, silvers and general riff-raff are appalled to an enormous degree.
Poor you.

All this nonsense about it being a first world problem, its actually about good customer service. I have gold status with Qantas and was having problems checking in my luggage self service for a domestic flight ( as I was told to do) and when I had difficulties and complained I was told by a QF to more of less get a grip and that it was a " first world problem". Didn't go down well, how about " Let me take care of that for you ?"

I don't know about VA, but on QF they're supposed to acknowledge their higher status pax in economy thus:

"Identify Chairmans, Platinum One and Platinum Frequent Flyers, using their names throughout the flight."

The origin of this story reminds me of the 'treatment' I got, when I posted my perceived 'failure of service' as a F pax on QF last year.

Too many over-entitled critics on this forum to risk putting issues on these pages anymore ...

VA stopped doing this years ago. Oddly seemed to co-incide with dark uniform for CSM, which makes me wonder when the CSM's wore red, did they do the welcome so we knew who they were. Back in the day AirNZ and Etihad were pretty good about the welcome for VA Plats and even offering an extra drink or similar. But VA? Nahhhh

Yep, once I was platinum and hubby was gold but he got the warm and personal welcome, thanking him for his continued loyalty, and all I got was a warm towel.

Complaining about bad service in F is more than justified, having a whinge because your self esteem is so low you go nuts because cabin crew didnt wish you happy birthday in Y is unusual. <redacted>

I'm surprised to hear that. I'm also VA Platinum and have always experienced excellent Business Class service on board. Can't praise the cabin crew enough - friendly, efficient and professional.

Turning this thread on its head with a nice story:

We flew VA SYD-LAX J on our wedding anniversary in 2016. I casually remarked this to the CSM when he asked what our travel plans were.

After lunch, we were invited to the bar to partake in a champagne celebration and all available FA's congratulated us. Later, as we were deplaning - they handed me a pyjamas bag that contained 2 sets of Opera House S&P shakes PLUS a bottle of vintage Ayala. They apologised for the "wrapping paper" but wished us a fabulous holiday and hoped we liked their gift.

I figured it couldn't get any better than that, so I am more than happy to fly as Mrs Nobody these days.

So, even though you were shown to be wrong in your previous post, you still come back to play the person, not the issue? 😕
