HI there,

my parents just got back from Europe and did not receive any points on their Sydney - HongKong (return) leg with Cathay Pacific. They booked with Finnair as they were travelling to Helsiniki. In the past they have always received points on Cathay when travelling on either a Qantas or Finnair ticket.

How do I find out what booking class they were in (historically and in the future). I checked the Qantas website and I can't figure out why the didn't receive points.

Are there any Finnair flyers who can help me? I just want to know whether it is worth chasing Qantas on this (as last time it took ages to fight for points that they eventually gave me).

The would have been in O,S,L or H depending on which fare level they booked at.

O,S and L definately don't earn QF F/F on Cathay, not sure about H, but I suspect given the H Class level it wouldn't have been that one anyway.

Your travel agent would be able to tell you.

What I would do is a letter to the Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Centre in Melbourne.

In your covering note set out passengers names and QFF numbers. Enclose copies of the e-ticket and copies of all boarding passes.

You will find their address on the QF website.

I have found that posting stuff in gets them to look at and credit and if it is too hard for them to work out they will credit anyway!

good luck

L Class definitely does earn on CX flights, O & S do not.

My understanding is that L does, and that all LONE* products acrue QF points with CX

In the last months i can confirm 'L' does earn miles in the QFF program if flown on CX flights.

However some other classes don't but as a general rule i dont care about points if its one of the sometimes really fantastic sales fares CX had (like last year SIN-HKG-KIX-HKG-SIN for $530 SGD !!)

Was it a CX QF or AY flight number (as it was booked with Finnair) ?

l am flying to PER to TXL via singapore and helsinki in December.
How can l check what type of ticket it is? I have looked on the printed out e-ticket but it doesn't say anything?

Cheers

An e-ticket receipt will normally show the fare Basis or Booking Class. This may be a a single letter (such as L, O, N etc) or may be a string of letters such as SHBB1Y. If the full fare basis is shown, then the booking class is generally the first letter (S in my example).

Otherwise call the airline and ask them.

If you have either an Amadeus PNR reference (if there is one) or the ticket number you can plug either of these into the LAN E-Ticket Print Utility to get the booking fare bucket (for each segment).

As NM posted, it's generally the first Character of the entry under the "Fare" Code column.

I have found an exception (I think).

I can be on a J_____ fare, but this will book into "D" class. Or is business an exception?

Yes, There are exceptions to this (e.g. KUP.../YUP... often book into A or P on AA.) and can happen for any fare class. Hence the use of the word generally.

Hmm, I have not come across any of those. What is the full fare basis? Is it a corporate fare?

It is a J2BIN. Yes, is a corporate fare but definitely books into "D". Anyway, makes no difference as works as a business fare.

Looks like the first letter is an "L"

Hope l get the points, but l won't be doing much flying after 30 Nov (Status reset) anyways. Which is a shame, oh well....

l should earn you 0.5 points per flown mile, and discount economy status credits.

If these have not posted within about 3 weeks of the flight, lodge a claim with QF Frequent Flyer for credit for the flights. They will want to know all the details, including dates, flight numbers, ticket number and a copy of the boarding passes.

I have had missing flights successfully credited by scanning the boarding passed and emailing along with all the other details to the Qantas Frequent Flyer service centre.

cheers NM, l've had to chase points and SC a few times. Even Qantas aren't on the ball sometimes.

It can happen. Its difficult yo say who is at fault or what causes the breakdown at time. My last three QF flights (all on the same ticket) did not automatically post to my AA account, even though the boarding passes clearly showed the correct FF number and OneWorld status. All CX flights on the same ticket posted correctly. So who knows why. All posted now after lodging the claim for missing credits.
