I would suggest Accor are enforcing brand standards requiring a capital expense the hotel is not prepared to make, such as a Reno or bed replacement.

To be fair, part of a great experience can be attributed to the service given because of status. If a venue changes brands, it might not be possible to get the same experience without a status match or higher spend

Exactly. Being met at the baggage carousel at the airport and having your bags taken care of from there, a substantial room upgrade and access to executive lounge etc. Etc for being Accor plat. Ta-ta to any of that. Not a dealbreaker with the change in franchise but not inconsequential either.

Well yes, and if different brands are reasonably co-located I can appreciate status coming in to play. Here’s there’s really not much choice!

I don't often stay at Novotels but I was impressed with this hotel. I thought the standard was pretty high for a Novotel.

Have stayed there several times due to convenience and how they look after status customers so sad to see them go. We are flying less through Asian hubs these days and our preference is via the ME so perhaps we wouldn’t have stayed there many more times in the future but it’s still a loss

I've only stayed here once, but a similar experience to others here, very positive and excellent status recognition. It's just so very handy if you're arriving late or departing early. Just a few minutes walk from the terminal through an air-conditioned walkway.

I hope they keep the 24-hour check in that they have, whatever they end up re-branding as.

And the winner is… <drum roll > Hyatt! Rebranding as a Hyatt Regency from February 1st. If the reason for exiting Accor was a lack of investment, it doesn’t stack up as a Regency IMHO. I would have thought the Regency brand might be a step too high for that property but clearly not.

It’s not listed on Hyatt.com yet, but I’m interested to see what category they’ll assign it to. Maybe a Cat 3 considering the underlying rates.

- The hotel will honor all existing reservations, but you don’t earn Accor ALL elite qualifying nights or points, but you will with the World of Hyatt.

Wouldn’t be the first Hyatt Regency to rise from perceived lower ranks, looking at you Brisbane, which used to be a country comfort!

Note that I haven't stayed at this property and can't comment on whether I think its current state is in keeping with either Novotel or Hyatt Regency.

I think the Novotel at TPE (where I have stayed, and it was perfectly pleasant for a night between Eva flights) is likewise reflagging to a Hyatt Regency about now?

TPE switched on January 1.

Yeah, seems unlikely that "brand standards" would drive a hotel from Accor to Hyatt.

The Novotel was approaching 19 years under its contract, and has never been refurbished in that time, new standards were introduced on 2021 including the new bed. I would suggest the owners were given the option of upgrading or exit, like a few Novotels have done including Brisbane. Who knows why.
