At USD 1650(++) for return F class to anywhere in Asia that beats USDM hands down! (just getting availability on QF is a little hard)

Considering HKG will be the only option after March 31 for QF F!

Re: AA buy miles promo, 50% bonus, increased annual limit to 60k

Ive just done a search and have Australia to LHR for xyz points, but will only give me 1 person...

When I search 2 people, it routes me via NRT in lieu of DXB.

Does this mean there is only 1 seat, or could I book 1 seperately, in each account?

Ok....

How about this, in order to get 2x lots of AA Bonus points, anything stopping me having 2 AAv accounts, with different email addresses? Booking each sector (F 80K Miles, being that the account has a 90k balance) under a different AAv number

It is not necessary ( or wise) to have multiple email addresses or accounts for the same person. I have 4 family members with the same email address. You can open another account for a family member, buy miles and book a ticket from that account with you as the traveller

Awesome, thanks Princess

Both myself and my partner are now AA members, with 90K points each, bring on the awesomely cheap Aus-Eng flights for chrissy :-)

Might just have to sign a few family members up and use their accounts to book my flights hahaha

So once the flights are booked, do I call up and ask to change the FF number to my QF Plat? Or should I just stay with the AA Number...

Obviously no points are earnt, might be just better with the OW Status on there?

The USA programs allow some "latitude" in family members redeeming flights for another member etc...

However if they sniff rorting they will come down hard, as one fairly vocal AFF member recently discovered.

Overdoing "family" members is also not a good idea. ie if you end up with a swag of "family' who buy points, but never fly themselves you may come to grief.

Thanks for the shout out mate ! I might look into this as my next adventure has lead me to Japan and I need something to get me home .

I agree 100% with this and should point out that the multiple AA accounts I manage are bona fide family members accounts

But getting award flights Dec - Jan will be the challenge.

Sounds like if one does not have any existing AA points, and they want a J class return from Oz to US, there's no choice but to use another family (legit or otherwise) account so that you can book one leg with one account and the other leg with the other account, since there's a 60K purchase limit on miles per year (plus the 30K bringing it to 90K) whereas you'll need 125000 miles for the J return. (Same with Europe, since that's 60K one way for J).

That is correct. I first started buying AA miles in my families accounts a full calendar year before we redeemed them. I realise that this strategy may be risky in the current potential US airways merger

"The straw that broke the camels back".

I am not saying to not do it. But if one really overdoes it, one may get call out.

I am very much an "optimser" myself. However in these situations there are no firm guidelines as to how far you can stretch things. The FF programs probably prefer to keep it this way too.

Sorry to make this '101' AA points transfer to QF, but how is that done actually?

No they don't transfer.

But you can redeem AAwards for travel on QF.

Hi,

I'm currently only in QF program. Can you view a table of miles you need for travel flight redemptions before joining?

Just wondering how many miles might need for an economy and business flight between Australia and US?

Thanks,
Dale.

I'm curious as well. Here's the AA Chart for redemptions on partner airlines http://www.aa.com/i18n/disclaimers/aadvantageAllPartnerChart.jsp#1

I'm not sure if I'm reading it correctly but a one-way Oz to US seems to be only 62,500 on business (whereas it's about 128,000 of QF points!). By my calculations, to buy 65,000 AA points with the offer (ie inclusive of the free miles) = USD 1,182.50.

But I'm not an AA member and have never redeemed points for flights (let alone business class flights) so I don't know:
(a) how easy (or not) it would be to get availability on QF business seats; and
(b) how much the taxes would be.

Otherwise, it would be a very tempting way to save on a business class flight - albeit a very convoluted process.

Also query whether such a redemption would earn you AA EQPs, as if you're doing an OZ - US return you could get close to meeting their AA Platinum challenge (if you get EQPs as if you actually did buy a business class return flight).

Can someone point me in the right direction for the process of booking an award seat with AA ... Must be a sticky somewhere

Hows that work

So once the flights are booked, do I call up and ask to change the FF number to my QF Plat? Or should I just stay with the AA Number...

Many of these questions and others are, in my opinion, best placed in the more extensive information and help thread on AAdvantage located here http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ple-of-aadvantage-questions-newbie-28236.html

there seems to be some confusion that the AA program hails from another planet!! QF and AA are basically the same. Just as you would actually go to the QF website to find an award chart, people should also consider actually going to the AA website to find the award chart! If you cannot do the basics such as find an award chart, or even know how to make an award booking, people should probably not be buying AA miles. (certainly should not be spending thousands of dollars on the basis of reading a two second reply on the internet)
