I'd rather no towel than my last-but-one experience on QF dom J which was a towel that was indeed a towel, and was indeed wet, but was in fact freezing cold.

Someone forgot to turn the heat on!

I must say I don't know, but either way it was an uncomfortable experience

IIRC I think they are prepared by taking a tray of pre-rolled towels and dripping some water from the galley boiler onto them. I suppose there is a bit of an art in balancing when (from last drop from the boiler to tong-handling to the passenger) to offer the hot towels so you don't get a boiling hot towel, but at the same time, since the cabin air is obviously much cooler than the boiling water and the towels don't hold much water in the first place, you don't want to leave the towels sitting too long otherwise they will cool very, very quickly.

milehighclub could probably say a bit more about this :)

On the plastic wrap that is around the hot towels are 9 steps to preparing and presenting the perfect hot towel!!!

Most importantly you don't wanna use to much water as they become too soggy, while at the same time use enough so they are hot.

It's a fine art and covers at least 3 days of training! That's after the 4 days of training to pour tea and coffee :-P

I've seen a few FAs who obviously skipped the 4 day course :!:

just out of interest, what would happen if an overweight pax was too big to fit through the overwing exit during an emergency evac?

Justsitting next to one and thinking they are not overly big, and there would be pax bigger than it out there.

I reckon we'd die unless we could get to another emergency exit.

Does feedback on cabin crew make its way back to individual cabin crew? For instance if I left some feedback via customer care and mentioned something a particular FA did does that make its way back to the FA and/or their manager?

It sure does. Our manager sees it then forwards it to us.

That's good to know ( in a good way)
I'm always a little disappointed when I receive a cut and paste reply email from Customer Care when I submit positive feedback on Flights. Never sure if they actually get any recognition for excellent service.
I'm pretty vague and usually put the date, flight no and first name of the cabin crew I've had a great flight with

Is there any in-air washing of crockery and glasses for reuse particularly in first class? This story made me think made me think that passengers in the pointy end can go through a lot of glasses. Or are there simply enough glasses to go around (and stowed for washing on the ground) should everyone in F use up a few glasses on a long-haul flight?

I have never had to wash a glass. And the advantage to having the same glasses in F/J is that you can steal from the other cabin if you are short (except Champagne).

I have had to wash a bowl once because we were short. Rest assured we have the proper equipment onboard to wash any service items (this equipment is known as detergent :) )

Lately I have been on a few QF flights and have noticed the uniforms seem to be rather practical, appropriate pockets in the right places for specific stuff etc. Are they or are they actually uncomfortable and impractical in their designs ? and do the different versions have any noticeable benefits?

Interesting observation, but the uniform hasn't changed in nearly 10 years. An apron was introduced about 5 years ago for economy. Recently the apron became optional so you can now wear the apron or full uniform during the service (the print or black dress is considered full uniform for the girls)

The uniform is comfortable and when you can potentially be wearing it for 20 hours plus, it needs to be! I love wearing the serving jacket (worn in F/J only). It's very comfortable, doesn't crease, and very stain resistant but if you do get food on it, it's easy to clean on the spot with a hot towel.

Hah i guess you could say that. I have had a few jobs where the way you use pockets can be either a disaster or the best help.

10 years is it time for a refresh?

They are being re-designed now, was announced a little while ago. Won't see anything for quite a while though

At a recent holiday expo, I mentioned to one of the QF staff manning the stand that Ms 9yo had recently been diagnosed with Aspergers and it was suggested that I ring reservations and get that added to the booking so the crew know just in case (on the off-chance she plays up). Is that likely to affect where we're seated or anything? We're doing BNE-LAX-JFK and return in Feb.
