Now Boarding ... Chicken or Beef?

Our briefings are electronic. There is information from various departments (safety, service etc) usually regarding any recent changes. The managers can also talk about anything they feel important to pass on. My last briefing had a slide reminding us about the lounge changes in Singapore in case anyone asked.

UM's are definitely mentioned, as are the number of wheelchair passengers. Individual passengers are not usually mentioned. A large group, perhaps. The managers may be aware of something in regards to a specific passenger on the flight, especially when there has been a recent interaction with customer care. They then usually pass that on to the specific crew later that will be taking care of them as the briefing (which is only 10 minutes) is best spent on covering topics that impact all the crew. But the managers will use their discretion and if they feel it is important to share it, then of course they can.

Interesting Milehigh, thanks for all your answers. Do you get briefings or passenger notes on the manifest regarding people who have been troublesome on past flights eg. have previously had too much too drink on a flight and been cut off/warned that consumer too much or became aggressive over the quality of a sandwich ;) ?

Hi
Had the experience once again of circling GLT for an hour today ex BNE with three attempts to land. No success so returned to BNE. Was surprised that the flight attendants didn't provide a snack service for the return leg and only offered water. I thought that double catering happened ex BNE for the 717 flights and the food wouldn't have been used on a future flight as it would have been well past "out of fridge" time even for the long life plastic rolls.

i did a quick search and couldn't find anything for my question, so if it has been asked previously, apologies in advance...i am wondering whether one has to do a special meal request before each and every flight or is it enough to have meal preference stated within the frequent flyer profile???...this is for qantas...thank you...

I wasn't even aware you could have a meal preference in your profile, but would have expected it to be a per flight (or at least booking) request.

I've always done it per booking.

Be warned the QF website allows you to select meals that aren't offered on Dom flights.

AFAIK pax who are ff silver & above can have a meal SSR code attached to their profile so as long as the ffn is entered into the pnr either at the time or reservations or at least 24 hours prior to departure you should get your meal.

Note that if you change any of your flights (cancel & rebook) you will need to do a new meal request as any previous requests for meals, WCHR & seating will automatically be cancelled with the flight.

If you don't add your ffn to your booking until you get to the airport it will be too late yo get your special meal.

thank you...i have been given conflicting reports that i have to do it as a request per flight, then i have been told that it is in my ff profile so it is an automatic request...i always book using my ff number...anyway, not to worry, was just wondering if there was a definitive answer out there...

thank you for the replies...

If you book using your profile it should automatically create meal requests for all eligible flights in the same booking ie breakfast/lunch/dinner flights where a meal service is offered.

Next time you do a booking, once you've ended transaction & got your booking reference go back into the booking & have a look next to each flight as to whether there are any comments about the special meal.

You can also pre-allocate your seats at the same time.

On past flights no, but on transit flights there may be a note from the 1st sector crew if someone was cut off or other behaviour that would be good to know about.

If you do find out there is a pax from a previous (or in transit) flight that caused trouble, how easy is it for you to off load that pax? Can the CSM do it themselves, or would they need to get the capt involved?

Hope it's ok to pipe in... I don't work for QF (some here would perhaps know which one), but at my airline, it's the captain's say. They will most certainly backup any reasonable request or leave it to the crew to say if they are comfortable or not. Each to their own. In saying that, anyone under the influence is most often seen as too big of a risk to carry. Ground crew also work well to determine one's ability to fly.

Hey mate... Have you got any information about middle east culture for the flight attendant to read (handboook)? I would love to know how to handle the pax in the middle east.

I have read from the news somewhere that (I don't remember whether I got the right information or not)
- If you are in Dubai, female flight attendants are not allowed to handle with angry male pax. Only male flight attendant's job to do that. (Am i right)?

From what I've read in the news media, you are wrong. There is no ban of female crew talking to male passengers. There is advice that it might be more efficient for a male crew member to talk to male passengers in some situations. This is entirely logical and normal, the idea being to minimise disruption and handle passenger requests as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Are crew certified on multiple aircraft types? On the flight down on Saturday I recognised one of the crew from my A330 flights and we were flying a 763.

I too am expecting a hat.

Yes, cabin crew are trained on multiple aircraft.

Domestic are A330/767/737
International are 747/767/A330 or just A380
London and Auckland are 747/A380

The new uniform is launched tomorrow at 1045am! The show will be streamed live through various sites (Facebook and Qantas news room) if you want to watch it!

I have seen it and can't wait for everyone else to see it too!
