I disagree, I always get through to brisbane as oposed to an overseas call-centre.

Not always for me!

I've flown all around Asia and the Antipedes in a single morning via the VA priority phone lines............let's see QF manage that!

Perhaps it's just my good luck but have always got through to the right area and almost straight away without any significant holding. I doubt I'm doing anything different so all I can do is put it down to luck?

Both, so points and complimentary upgrades. :) hope the trial is successful and rolled out to other ports.

Quick one - can you mix and match. Say I wanted to upgrade 2 people, can I do one on a certificate and one with points (as I only have the one bonus certificate!)

I would be happy with the better seat.. The food is just a bonus when upgrading. That is how I look at it..
I have to disagree. If I am paying for it, with points, I expect the full service. For an op up, fair enough. Fortunately, the Virgin rep has confirmed the 40min cut off is to ensure catering requirements can be covered.

Oh dear, here we go on the catering issue again

Anyone getting on departure upgrades these days?

I've been burning points on my flights recently to take advantage of the discounts on transfer and points so all my flights bar one have been in J, just wondering if anyone is getting upgrades these days, have noticed J class pretty empty and Y full on a few sectors but row 3 most pointedly has the middle seat free and what looks like plat members sitting in it with a seat blocked off. Anyone getting lucky at check in or gate these days?

Re: Anyone getting on departure upgrades these days?

Not once unfortunately and Iv been travelling every week for the past 9 months and almost always on a Flexi Fare in Y. For a good 7 months of that I have been a plat too.

Re: Anyone getting on departure upgrades these days?

I have been upgraded twice in 4 flights, but never before that!

Not since J was introduced.

(I might also add I'm not unhappy about that either. I don't mind the concept of business being business.......point/status upgrades and genuine op-ups excepted of course)

Re: Anyone getting on departure upgrades these days?

Nope - business class on VA is generally empty as well on the flights I've been on.

A la QF they seem to be trying to preserve the integrity of J which I don't mind.

Re: Anyone getting on departure upgrades these days?

A few times - once i think just after J was introduced and twice for genuine operational reasons (1. another flight cancelled so our flight was overbooked, 2. i spent the night before in the lounge because my flight the night before was cancelled).

On Departure Upgrades

Spent some time speaking to the Platinum line this morning for some flights, and was told that the on departure upgrades were available at all the major lounges now. I had heard that they were trialling this in Melbourne, but she said that it is available at all lounges now and cant remember seeing anything on the forum about it.

Re: On Departure Upgrades

Yup there was a post late Apr from Markis10 about this for the Melb lounge as a trial for flexi fares to use points to upgrade, seems its working its way around the all The Lounges now, my only problem is no Lounge in Newcastle!

Re: On Departure Upgrades

Tried this morning in Syd lounge and was told no seats available. Once on board there were 4 J seats empty. Seems like a few things are still hit and miss.

Although with weather problems at SYD this morning, it's possible (maybe even highly likely) that those seats were allocated, but pax didn't end up boarding due to reasons beyond their control.

Was told by Gold call centre night before that seats were available and told same thing by lounge angel at front desk before security that the service desk would be able to do upgrade after they checked system .

Have sent feedback to VA so will see what they come back with.
