Now You're Flying Virgin Australia

Ok fair point but take me as an example, there is a possibility I may have to travel to Sydney next week for a meeting,so this morning I did some research on fares,my options are QF at $116 with FF points and refreshments (Yes I know it's only coffee and a biscuit) plus baggage allowance included or DJ at $108.00 plus $12.00 for baggage=$120.00.,why would I choose DJ over QF in that situation when DJ isn't cheaper?
As I said in my post I have travelled with DJ many times (Yes sometimes I want a cheap fare and not bothered about bags.meals etc) and I will fly with them again, but I really want some reason to choose DJ over QF and at the moment I can't see one, which is a real shame.
Cheers

For a lot of people the numbers you quote do match up though. Velocity Gold & Silver members get free baggage so therefore the difference is $8 which you can spend (or not spend) as you so desire.
Looking ahead I find there are often situations where DJ is cheaper and often situations where QF is cheaper. ie it varies as it does with all things.

Always has done. When I joined this forum it was the common way for members to refer to us. My mission was to change that.

Consider it changed, but the continued display of your avatar probably confuses people, I know it confused me when I PM’ed you about it :p

Now THIS is interesting and i'm not sure it was meant to be announced today.

Business class on the 737!

A look at Business Class on Virgin Australia's Boeing 73... on Twitpic

Looks very nice indeed. However as I never really pay for J it’s not swaying me… I’ll have to wait and see what Y is like and if my experience on board changes.

Or how generous the new FF program is with upgrades :)

I'm very excited about this, the prospect of more competition will go a long way in the airline industry.. QF have enjoyed a monopoly for ten years - that is now over.

For me, living on the Gold Coast, my only choice is VA or JQ... an easy decision now.

The J seats released today look much better than QF. I'm sure once some of us start to fly with them we'll learn a lot more without marketing clouding our judgement.

What I would like to see is some competition for Rex on the ABX-MEL market,I travel on this run every week and at the moment I'm putting up with ageing Saab's and service that is even more inconsistent than QF,perhaps if the rumoured T5 at Melbourne comes to fruition then Virgin might consider operating some of the ATR's they have ordered on the route, that would make a difference (well to me at least :!:)

Very nice indeed.

However, IMHO, the knock out punch (or not) will be the forth coming changes in the Velocity FF program. Waiting with "baited" breath!!!

Living on the Gold Coast I'm in the same boat. VA clearly is my choice (Velocity Gold helps that decision too ;)) I've said it before, I feel that QF handed VA the Gold Coast corporate market. With VA retaining reasonably priced fairs, they will keep the SME market (big part of the OOL market). JQ will have to offer dirt cheap fares to even be considered.

Can't wait for the OOL lounge too. Great work Virgin Australia, wishing you all the best!

Btw, will the Virgin Australia code now change to VA from DJ?

Can't say this really changes anything for me. I do mostly personal flying with occasional business travel, but the lack of a decent FF programme or QP equivalent is still stopping me from spending my cash and points on the new Virgin.

I do look forward to seeing the new interior though, looks great!

I recall from @AusBT's tweets that JB was going to mention something about changes to IFE, but don't seem to have found anything in the materials.

Did anyone catch anything related to IFE? Any chance we'll finally see some RED action?

I think we're getting RED :D

Looking very Virgin America!

The entire cabin actually looks quite shmick! is it me or does the 1st row of Y have a tonne more room than J? i assume the extra room would be for either bassinets or FAs?... or is that the new Y+?

as an interesting comparison, take a look at Continentals new 739. the J seats show the same frame/body, with different back rest padding. The DJ seats have a tighter/narrower back rest, but in doing so widens the gap between seats. DJ seats are far more aesthetically pleasing, but perhaps aren't quite as private/isolated from row behind.

That's not RED. I reckon they've just rebadged the existing Emirates IFE system... for now.

Main cabin select?

Some have already hinted at this question, but does anyone know if the IATA Airline Code is changing from DJ?

Is it a new "operating airline", with new IATA and ICAO codes (e.g. DJ & VOZ) and callsign (VIRGIN)? Or is it just a corporate rename of Virgin Blue Holdings Ltd? (The new Wikipedia page doesn't show anything yet).

I notice Airport sites are still showing Virgin Blue logos in their online FIDS: I guess they didn't want to risk early-release of the info by providing airport operators with the new logos in time to coincide with the change.

And even on the new VA site, it's still showing "Virgin Blue" as the operator of the domestic flights in the "Arrivals and Departures" area of the web site.

So when I fly home this week, will I be travelling on a Virgin Blue flight or a Virgin Australia flight???

+1 QF have basically left us and haded the marked to VA... I still make the journey up to BNE to fly QF, but I don't think I will be doing that for too long. This J Product, although, I wouldn't say it is quite as good as QF's mini cabin feel, is still much better than PE or anything JQ throw at OOL.

My only hope is that I don't have to wait too long until the J rollout is complete, and we see J seats on OOL routes....

YouTube - Emirates A330 economy
Theyre looking identical to those of the Emirates aircraft if you ask me, not sure if its the same system though. More likely than not however we've got a channeled IFE rather than an on demand system as was the case with the EK aircraft?

From the VA website:
"Entertainment

Your Business Class seat comes with a large 10.6 inch in-seat screen showing a multi-channel range of Movie and TV content. You will also have access to a range of audio channels. You can enjoy your vast selection of entertainment with comfortable, noise cancelling headsets."

If anything though im VERY pleased to see the remote making an appearance. Nothing annoys me more than somebody prodding the back of your seat for hours at a time!

Looks awesome, well done guys.

Very happy to be making the shift from QF to VA...QF have done nothing to retain my loyalty or that of my clients over the past couple of years so VA it is.

Look forward to checking out the new product first hand soon.
