I had booked the NYC IC Barlcay for a stay in October this year under their Advance purchase rate for our upcoming holiday.
Recently I was advised that the hotel wont be able to honour my booking due to the hotel being closed for renovations from June onwards.
The reservations team have been very helpful in trying to source alternative accomodation at as close to the rate we have paid however i was advised that due to the room being booked and paid for (over $2k) with an international credit card (Amex) it will take up to 30 days to refund the payment.
I questioned why the hotel could charge my international credit card immediately after requesting the booking online, but not refund my money before 30 days after cancellation! Apparently thats just what the hotel advised the reservations consultant.
Does anyone have advice on how to recover my money quicker, and if they are allowed to hold the money?
Cheers
