Does anyone know how to get the PNR with when booking a redemption with a different airline?

Hello, I booked a GA flight using Virgin Atlantic points. The PNR they issue is not the GA one. Does anyone have a link to a site where I can locate the Garuda one without calling either airline ? ( I vaguely recall a discussion about this a while ago with a link that could find it, by using the PNR that I have- was it an Amadeus or something like that, not sure I even know what I am talking about here, but there was a way to do it somehow !)

It used to be possible to do this for certain airlines on the Amadeus GDS using 'Check My Trip', however the functionality was 'dumbed down' and later removed, so now you'd need to either find a common GDS airline that does show both PNRs, or to contact the ticketing airline and ask them for the operating carrier's PNR. VS (who uses the 'Sabre' GDS, by the way) shouldn't have any issue with this, and it's likely your fastest course of action.

Cheers,
Matt.

You'll need to call VS to get the GA record locator.

VS (who uses the 'Sabre' GDS, by the way)

VS is actually hosted on Deltamatic. They moved from SHARES about 10 years ago so that they could be on the same platform as DL which makes pax servicing a lot simpler.

Interesting - so the linked news is not for real? Or is the platform for this area different than bookings? (I guess Sabre is maybe listing/publishing the fares, vs the actual bookings?)

You're confusing distribution agreements with PSS (passenger servicing system).

Airlines generally sign distribution agreements with all major GDSes. Thus VS would have a distribution agreement with Amadeus, Sabre and Galileo/Travelport and possibly others. They would possibly also have a distribution agreement with Accelya/Farelogix for NDC distribution.

Distribution agreements allow for their content to be viewable and bookable in those GDSes. It has nothing to do with who hosts the PSS.

They would have a contract for a PSS separately - this may be a GDS provider, eg. Amadeus, Sabre etc. or it could be an in-house system (EK, EI, IB and a few others still run in-house systems).

On a related note, QF and BA despite using Amadeus for their PSS, also use Sabre products. Most airlines don't stick to one technology provider either.

Good to know - thanks!

So much quicker to WhatsApp Garuda +6281382140645, should be much better than calling

Yes, forgot to post back, I actually located and called an Australian number for a Garuda office, surprisingly I got through quite swiftly to someone who was able to assist and were super helpful.

Also had a similar thing with a Turkish Airlines flight issued on an Aeroplan redemption, I actually had both PNR's, however the TK site would not recognise either locator... in the end I called the TK's Australia contact centre... not very polite....but they got the job done....at least I think they did (seat selction) ..... as I still cannot see my booking on the TK site !!

I’ve been in this position myself and had to call the other airline to get their booking reference. If airlines followed AA example we would be fine. I booked AA code share Qatar and they showed both booking references. Qantas caused a similar issue to yours, I booked a reward flight in the US and had to ring AA to get their reference. It shouldn’t be too difficult to show both references.

Me too on QF code share with EK. Had to call EK to get the PNR, nd the was able to book seats without any trouble. It’s annoying though.
