hi JohnK

I hope your flight earlier this week went well. I didn't end up sending the PM as you seem to be full; and of course, I reckon you're plans have changed and you'll be going straight to T1 tomorrow.

I hope you have a good break and get refreshed and all.

Still up for a ginger beer or 2 for sure at T3. It would be good to meet up with a fellow AFFer.

Great. I'll make sure I'm in the T3 J lounge by 13:30. I never really been in the J lounge there, so I'm not sure about land marks for meeting. Probably easiest if I PM my mobile number.

Too early in BNE for you too JohnK but I think you're now heading home today/tomorrow? And I cant get into T3 sadly if you're still going...???
Took a risk and headed down to SYD on Tuesday to try and recouperate before overseas trip. Not easy at all and all that was achieved was more losses to add on to cancelled flights. :(

I am still very sick. Did not end up making overseas trip. Had to cancel most flights and rerouted others that I was able to but overall no chance of a well deserved break, lost >AUD1,000 in change and cancellation fees for a 10 day trip and still not able to get out of bed. :(

Hope the other Qantas Lounge meetings went well and we will eventually catch up somewhere along the way....

Did you have travel insurance?

Did you have travel insurance?
No. Last annual policy expired end of August and was in the process of purchasing the new annual policy when I was struck down by the virus in mid-September. :(

Bugger! Assume also then, that a c/c with TI wasn't used to purchase said flights?

Some of the flights were purchased with Qantas Amex Premium credit card. The cancellation fee on my main flights is $300 (partly paid with Qantas voucher) and the excess on Qantas Amex Premium credit card is $250.

Hardly worth the effort to make the claim and I was going to start another thread on credit card insurance when I felt better.

I'm really sorry to hear that, extremely bad luck. :(

The other lounge meetings didn't happen. There seemed to be some hassles with SYD-BNE/MEL flights. The J lounge kept announcing that all flights were full to both destinations and there are no standby places. Also a couple of delayed or cancelled flights. I figure people were more interested in making their flights; rightly so. Otherwise, I smell - highly likely. ;) As it was my flight was delayed by lack of cleaners.

You dont smell (to my knowlegde) - will have to actaully meet to make that judgement though!

There must have been some issue ex-MEL as everything that originated out of there was late inbound. After dashing to the airport, I needn't have hurried - 405p flight left @ 605p. Hmmm, I have about a 30% on time rate with QF recently (last 9 months). Sorry I missed you medhead - probably had time if i'd known you're flight was late and my flight was late too. Presume everything was full prior to nay delays due to combo of - 1st weekend school hols in NSW, plus long weekend, plus also end school hols in Qld. Add the replayed GF in MEL and we see the result. Some domestic 744s might have been a good idea - there were heaps parked at the jet base when I arrived c. 820am.

Must say the lounge dragon was pretty unhelpful too - very cold when i asked about waitlist (pointing out I had no checked luggage), although in hindsight that would seem to be because every flight is full. Still, she could have at least been pleasant about it.

I really hate friday night flights - QF dont allow enough margin on flights during the day, and the flights are just inevitably late. I dont think i've had an on time evening flight for some time. They get one little delay during the day and have no recovery time. They need a mid afternoon turn on each aircraft that is a little longer than average to make up morning delays. It cascades as it gets out of traffic sequence, gates not avail, cleaners late due to cleaning other a/c etc etc. Once you miss it, you get cascading delays for all sorts of reasons. We also scored the 12mins circling the gold coast as well due to "traffic", no doubt because of all the shifted flight times.

I might add their re-scheduled boarding times are total works of fiction - they'll always end up being 15-30 mins after their new schedule (as if they'll start boarding a 763 10mins after it was supposed to land!) It takes that long just to get back from the 3rd runway!

JohnK - sorry to hear overseas trip had to be cancelled. I know you were really looking forward to it. Get well. That's more important than any trip.

Thanks for the run down on Friday issues. Normally, I'm on a thursday flight so I didn't realise Friday is a hassle. The school holidays and GFs won't have helped either.

As for dragons the J lounge announcements about no standby places were sounding pretty frustrated after the first couple times. I was glad I didn't have to deal with them.

Cancellation of trip was unfortunate but there will be other opportunities. Disappointing that it is taking me this long to get better.

17/10 QF843 DRW-SYD QP from 1200 - Can guest 2

I'm on the same flights. Upgraded QF853 to get rid of some points accrued from official travel and am hoping to do an ODU for QF777 using personal points.

8/10 QF642 PER-SYD @ airport by 08:10
8/10 QF779 SYD-CBR

Can guest 1.

Got a call from Qantas yesterday lunchtime and I'm now on QF719 direct to PER at 19:30. The bonus is I get to stay in J for the new routing at no additional points. :D

Can guest 1 if also flying on QF.

Can see why they offered you the opportunity to change flights, I was on QF777 today and it was packed. Was very happy I got the exit row aisle seat when I asked at the CBR check in
