Hi, travelling on a rare (for me) S class fare and decided to try for an ODU, just for 'the fun'.

CHecked in at MEL 40 minutes before boarding and requeted an upgrade. The guys tappety tapped for 20 seconds and said, no problem. He then tacked away for another 90 seconds, then produced a J BP. 8)

This is different to the few other times I have done this, where they took my BP and (generally) called me later to advise I was unsuccessful.

73H showing J4 this morning. (T9 as well!)

Any one with an idea abour a change of process here?

No change; just depends on the route and loads as to whether they will do it for you there and then or whether they have to wait and see whether there is availability to upgrade

Thanks Dave, loads were light, I guess 'cause of ANZAC day. The Seq no was 31 and there were 2 unused Saets in J behind my 2D.

The flight was wide open in all classes except X & U this morning; I purchased S on a late notice requirement last week; no O/N/Q available then.

With 20 minutes left as your "window of opportunity" for the ODU, it would seem serfty that you were the only one in the queue for ODU's for that flight. It would also indicate that all J pax booked on the flight had checked in, thus ODU's were able to be processed straight away.

When there is a queue for ODU's, or still J pax to check-in, they generally take your BP. Then they process them on the FIFS (first in, first served) formula. They usually then announce prior to, or with the QP boarding announcement, for you to come back via the Customer Service Desk to pick up your BP's - that when you find out whether you've been (one of the fortunate ones  .

FWIW, it was actually an Hour before the scheduled departure time, i.e. 40 mins before boarding was due to be called.
