Just a quick note that while citibank cards normally have relativly good exchange rates for O/S uses, those with the Visa logo have an additional 2% conversion fee ...
Which is precisely why I keep refusing their offer to add the Visa option to my Readicredit card. I only use it for overseas cash withdrawals and don't need the Visa component nor the extra 2% fee. But none of their marketing blurb sent out trying to get me to add on the Visa option makes any mention at all about the extra foreign currency conversion penalty that would then apply. Quite deceptive marketing I believe.

Whats the alternative for the Gold Free for life then?

iirc you can choose when signing up for the "Gold free for life", whether you want a Mastercard or Visa card. Mine's a Visa. :(

Surely you still pay a conversion fee on MC...

What NM & I are referring to is a Redicredit account with no attached MC or VS. Maybe the 'no annual fee for life' does not come without MC or VS or perhaps it was optional on signup.

And there is no annual fee on my Readicredit. And it has a free cheque book for paying those occasional bills like ballet lessons where credit cards are not accepted. And reasonable exchange rates for cash withdrawals. But no FF points from the spend either.

There was only mastercard or visa avail for the free gold for life offer. No wonder no one has a clue what you are talking about

Just received my statement with "Changes to Qantas Frequent Flyer Redemptions" in bold print. Says minimum points transfer 10,000 points, which is OK, I knew that. However then says "you will be able to redeem your points in increments of 10,000 points.

Increments?? To me this means I can't transfer 15,000 points. Only 10k, 20k, 30k. That could make things a bit difficult. Anyone know for sure?

I took it to mean that we could only transfer points in 10,000 blocks.

From citibanks rewards t&c's web site:

"The initial redemption must be 10,000 Reward points and subsequent redemptions must be in fixed blocks of 10,000 Reward points."

Thanks for the replies, although not the answer I'd hoped for, at least I know for sure.

Hi All,
I rang up the other day to request a fee waiver on my Citibank Gold Card and cited the No Fee for Life they are offering now. They said they couldn't do it but after much discussion they offered me a transfer to a CitiBusiness Credit card for the same fee. This gives me now 1.25 points per $1 spent. Better than most visa cards I think. Has anyone had a similar response? Are there any other Non Amex cards offering as may points?

I can't find any info on the AU web site at all?
They just offered it to me and I have it in my hands now. I checked the points because they are adjusted daily and it is working @1.25points per $. About it being on the website, sorry, but I don't know. Oh by the way , the only thing that I could not have by changing my gold card over to this card was having my photo n the front ( and to me THAT IS a blessing)

Interesting....may I ask how much the yearly fee is for this card?

Also do you have to bea business to get it?

Thanks.

The annual Fee is the normal gold card annual fee of $119.00. The card is in my name and not in a business name. PS I also took out a "No Fee For Life: card after they gave me this card just for the sake of having it.

Hello all,
I posted a comment a bit over a week ago, whereby i applied for a no-annual fee gold card. however i received a rejection letter not long afterwards.

This week I received a letter from CB offering to upgrade my Silver to Gold card plus increase in credit limit...........but their offer has the $119annual fee......

Should I 1) accept this offer and once the new card arrives call to CB & request free for life waiver or 2) make a new application using the free for life links

i'm not fussed either way as I already have a partner (supplementary) free gold card........and going to close the Silver this month anyway...

Hi everybody...

I have recently become a member of this forum as I have recently become a Qantas FF (via the free offer from my new Earth+ card).

I am about to apply for a Citibank No annual fee cc. My question is whether I should apply for a Gold or Silver card. I can live without the status of a "gold" card and the extra ability to earn points (60,000 v 40,000? p.a.) has no benefit either. The overseas travel insurance benefit might be of use though. I understand that if my gold application fails, then it will be three months before I can apply for a silver.

My circumstances are:
~ Currently earning $47k p.a.
~ No debts, loans etc. Have a perfect credit history, paid off two car loans within 15 months.
~ Earth+ card with a credit limit of $3,000.
~ Live at home with parents, few expenses.

Should I go for gold or silver? Any advice gratefully received...:)

You do not have any choice. The free promo is a gold card, not silver.
