Ok, I was *REALLY* unhappy at Velocity (re: Partner Gold issues)

Doesn't work like that. As you go up through the status levels, it is the number in the rolling 12 month period that counts. It doesn't reset.

To get to Platinum, you need (from zero) to get to the 1000 Status Credits in 12 months. You will have gone through silver and gold on the way there, and your review date would have moved each time.

When your Review Date changes so to does the Total Benefit Period and the date that your new SC total starts counting.

Look at this example:
http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ally-unhappy-velocity-33020-8.html#post493128

VFF counts the SCs earned since your latest update date or annual anniversary. SCs earned before that date are not counted toward the next status obtain or retain.

That means a VA NB who in 12 months:

1) hits 200 SCs, gains Silver will have their date reset and lose those 200 SCs.

2) Then needs to earn another 500 SCs to gain Gold, have their date reset and lose those 500 SCs.

3) Then needs to earn another 1,000 SCs to gain Platinum, have their date reset and lose those 1,000 SCs.

4) Then needs to earn another 1,500 SCs to gain partner Gold or 2,000 SCs to gain partner Platinum.

So for that VA FFer starting from scratch they will need to earn 1,700 SC to obtain Platinum and 3,200 SCs to obtain partner Gold if done in a 12 month period. Not a lot of encouragement for a real FFer to put in a lot of miles with VA.

No, but i understand the confusion. As you rise up a tier they have a rolling 12 month review period as well as the annual one. It's actually quite generous in that... You hit silver and have 12 months to retain BUT you can keep going up a tier based on SC earn in the last 12 months (rolling). So you can reach silver/ gold/ plat based on the best rolling 12 month window and you are not locked into meeting it in a fixed year.

My mistake was to assume that this system ALSO applied to PG and PP. It doesn't. It's not unreasonable it's just a little counter intuitive because it works a little differently than the process of progressing up the tiers. For PG and PP they must be earned in the fixed year after you a platinum and in that respect it works much the same way as QF and other programs do.

I'm just pointing it out to VFF so maybe they will do a rethink.

I think you will find they already have and actually have a better system where it is easier to progress not harder.

 You are correct. Just reread the T&Cs. Obtaining higher status is based on the last 12 months of SC earning. Maintaining status is based on the SC earn in the Total Benefit Period or the 12 months from when the status upgrade happened or it's annual anniversary.

I have been reading through this post for the last few days. I think i will just keep flying and whatever comes my way then all good.
Really the benefits between Plat vs Gold isn’t allot, saying that if my partner fly’s with me she will get some of the same perks such as lounge access etc. Yes it would be nice to get her to platinum or gold but for 2 flights a year that she may take on her own i wonder the value for me personally.

Maybe i am not jumping for joy as i don’t need to utilize some of the benefits such as additional luggage or Hilton upgrades for 6 months etc.
Apart from the free lounge access and priority checking its all much about nothing for me.
Anyway off to Sydney tomorrow morning..

Yes, that was an Engineers' explanation - long, wordy and completely confusing, but with lots of pretty pictures & diagrams :D.

Thankfully I don't really care about PG, because I hate to say it but this is still completely confusing to me

VA has 2 SC counters.

1) Rolling last 12 months SC earned counter. Unless you earn no SC for the last 12 months, this counter is never zero. This SC counter is used to trigger status upgrades.

2) Total Benefit period counter which counts SC earned since your last update date or annual anniversary. It is reset to zero at each Review Date.

This should help to explain the 2 SC counters and what they do:

+1 to that. I now know I'm nowhere near making it, so not even trying to think about it!

Argh dammit. I should quit my day job. :( Whatever that is.

I've removed the two posts before they cause any more damage... :( :( :(

And got it. I didn't know this but nice lady I spoke to on phone confirmed they just changed qualifying levels. I think they might get a few calls from AFF members today.

Australia's highest-earning Velocity Frequent Flyer credit card: Offer expires: 21 Jan 2025

Can anyone confirm if this is a transfer of SCs to your nominated partner, or just a complementary status increase and the original FFer gets to keep the excess SCs (for perhaps some future life time benefit)?

Hoping someone can help clarify this for me, based on the below info when should I get a companion membership and do I need to call them or will they call me.

Status Credits earned since 28 Jan 2012[SUP]1 [/SUP]

My total SC's are 2470 and have all been earned since Oct last year when I first started flying with Virgin (Non Status Match, started at Red). I have around 100SC's from this week that are not yet shown.

Thanks for the help.

So looking at the below, you have earned 1,490 status credits since you became Platinum so you could nominate someone for companion Platinum.

13.21 When a Platinum Member earns 1,000 Status Credits following their upgrade or Review Date, their nominated Companion Gold Member will automatically be upgraded to Platinum Membership (Companion Platinum Membership). If they haven’t nominated a Companion Gold Member, then they are entitled to nominate a Companion Platinum Member.

All done, got my Brother a platinum membership, they said it would take 7 days to process.

Also confirmed that you can only nominate one companion per benefit period. I then asked "so all the SC's i earn for the rest of this benefit period count for nothing?" she agreed.

I don't get this change??

This sounds too good to be true - but from what I can see... for example:

You hit 1000 credits for the first time on July 1
Your profile changes to Platinum and now says status credits required to maintain by 30 June 2013 is 800
You then go on to earn 500 more, your Profile now says credits to maintain by 30 June 2012 is 300 - plus you can gift Gold???

Or is it only once you have "Credits Required to Maintain Platinum: Achieved" then 500 more that you can gift Gold??

Unless I'm misreading, too, it does seem too good to be true.
Maintain Plat, +200 SCs, and achieve PP?
A long way from the previous requirement.
Before I "gift" something that may disappear in a puff of smoke, can someone set me straight on my possible misreading? :)

It is the first example from you, so once a Platinum member earns 500 status credits following their upgrade or review.

So if you are Platinum now and have earned 500 SCs since becoming Platinum you can nominate someone for Companion Gold and if you are Platinum and have earned 1,000SCs since becoming platinum you can nominate someone for Companion Platinum.
