So we both have Amex offers of $20 off Placie ride, which can be used to book Ola with. Putting aside the challenges of accessing Placie app from a foreign phone on data roaming (wifi worked though) our first effort saw three drivers cancel over a 15 min period before one accepted. Maybe the fare - from MEL @$50 wasn’t big enough. Or maybe dropping off wifi canceled the booking.

But today tried to book a private residence to get to a station to get a train to Geelong - and had three drivers - as little as 4mins away - cancel this time. This took about 15-20 mins - then gave it a shot at a cab which didn’t accept - at which point I gave up and caught the tram as I wanted to make sure I caught the next train - already missing one due to all the drivers cancelling.

Is this a common problem with Ola, or is it something to do with the Placie interface?

From now on Didi and Uber only for me.

I won't use Ola anymore either. I've had two drivers accept the job and go in completely the opposite direction and they wouldn't respond to my messages. There is no way to contact them after the fact to make a complaint about it even though I had screenshots.

My experience in Perth in the last few months is all three of the ride sharing services have gone down hill. Things like taking forever for a ride to be accepted, cancellations, driving in the wrong direction etc. The most frustrating is when I'm taking a trip that is a 10 minute drive and the driver who accepts it is 15 minutes from the pick-up point.

It's become pretty unreliable of late.

After similar experiences with Ola drivers too far away accepting, or as you say, accepting and then driving in the opposite direction, I uninstalled about 18 months ago and haven't experienced the same problems with uber in Perth (between inner suburbs/CBD and <> airport).

I generally only use uber, didi if i get a deal. The wait times for uber can be long in Perth, as I even ended up using a taxi for 1 trip from the airport.

General advice for ANY ride share platform passenger .....

DO NOT bother texting the driver, and expect a text reply.

Are you kidding ??

You want the driver to be texting you, whilst driving ? And you complain about arrival times ?

Every ride share platform, has the capacity to allow the passenger to PHONE the driver ...
Do that, and get your answer there.

Further, you will always find, that every platform has a mix of drivers ....

From those with 2, 3 ,or 4 university qualifications .... to those who never went passed primary school.
One day experience, or those with several years, and 10,000 plus rides completed.

Random bad luck is a factor in all the provider platforms ....
