On the cusp of 1st time silver - do I go for it?

Hmm great thread.

With booked travel I'm 60SC short of PS by my 30-Apr deadline. I've got ~150SC of travel booked in the 2 months in the next status year with that kind of rate expected to continue (maybe a bit slower) for a few months afterward so interested in getting some benefit... plus an o/s trip likely later in 2010.. maybe an opportunity for SG late in the coming status year.

Unfortunately no work travel likely to bump that last 60SC - most of my flying is self-funded.

Not a QP member and not likely to join given what I've heard about the CBR QP (which would be my 'home' QP most of the time) and it's not like you need to get to that particular airport way early.

So given I'm not likely to get SG for a while, worth going for PS in the meantime?
I'm particularly interested in how much better the seat options are - I seem to always end up way down the back at the moment....

My info is a few months old back to when my wife had no status and I was Gold. My seat selection was considerably better than hers though it varied from flight to flight.
The biggest difference I noticed was when I cheched in for a flight as a Gold, then had my status updated by getting some SCs posted. When I wentback about 20 min later as Platinum the difference of availability was huge.

I'd join, I'm also CBR based, and whilst it can get busy in the CBR QP, the value of QP is when your away from home, not when your at your home cities airport.

As a follow up - bit the bullet and joined the Qantas Club.

Totally worth it. My flight last Friday was delayed, I walked into the QC and next thing I'm on an earlier (still delayed, but around the time I was going to leave anyway) flight - would not have happened out in the main lounge!

Plus it's just turned my regular flying into something far more comfortable. My seat allocations have improved markedly in the couple of flights since joining - all the first few rows of Y, or exit row seating. Although it looks like I'll make silver this year QC is clearly an effective shortcut to better seats!

Thanks for the folow-up, and some very good points/benefits for joining QP memberships (for those thinking about it).
